truckee is mad cheap to live. but that also means your living in the "rich people's" ghetto. just look around. jobs are easy to get too. if you don't have a car, then the bus system is pretty good. hickhiking is easy too.

Also check out the California regional board, there are other people looking for places, and some offering some. Calsierx has rooms open in Tahoe city. Which is closer to alpine and squaw, but still not far from N*

The Sierra Sun newspaper lists a lot of places to live in their classifieds online. Probably your best bet to find a cheap place to live.
