ok so i have a friend, like basically the only one i have to ski with, lives in the city and is planning on graduating highschool after the first semester and then moving to calgary for the season. my school isnt on the semester system ao i cant do the same thing. this leaves me with no one to ski with so i would be not only skiing int a 100 foot high ditch for the season, i would be doing it alone. this wasnt a problem last year because i was on a freestyle team and that gave me the chance to travel and ski all over. this year tht team is basically going to be done b/c of our coaches leaving for bigger and better things (lucky you degelman and damn you calgary for stealing him)jk. so my question is does anyone know if its even possible to do some sort of independant study where you could work for credits at a school but not actually go to that school? thats the only thing i can really think of that will achieve my goal of having a season in the west with my friend. my plan this coming season was to really progress and get myself out there, but now it seams like its gonna be a season of basically no good skiing, no oppurtunities to compete, etc, etc. any ideas NS? please try and conjure up something for me

ok here's my 2 cents.
I don't know of any study abroad programs, but I wouldnt screw around with that anyway. Don't mess up your future just because you cant ski with one of your friends. Make some new friends. There are kids (Me being one of them) that dont ski with other freekskiiers. Just make some new friends, It's not the end of the world

yea i know what ur saying, and i understand, im pretty good in school and i think i could do well in any learning situation, which leads me to believe that i could make something work. and making new friends wont work for me when i live in a town of 800 people where i am the only one that skis except for one racer. i just dont want to have wasted my last season b4 i have to start cutting back skiing for university

How about you post 'Anyone want to ski with me?' in your regional forum.. there are people everywhere in NS who probably would go with you

dumbest fucking idea ever. if someone sees a GED on your resume they are immediatly going to think less of you. i'm sorry if that offends someone its true. don't back out of school with only a year left man. its not worth it
my suggestion is to find some new friends, there's gotta be people to ski with. or find out if your school has the option of online schooling. a lot of schools these days are starting up online programs for former homeschool kids who need to catch up or people like you who can't go to regular school but don't want to transfer

your an idiot sorry, but i did a GED and then started college early at community college, and now with a my 4.0 i can transfer to virtually any institution i want, and have time to work and ski. Plus get Bacheors degreee a year early. And really, once you get a degree, no one gives a fucking shit whst you did in high school

yeah for sure if his plan is to go into a community college then transfer a GED is sufficient. Its tough to go directly into a university with one and it look better to have your highschool education completed at a highschool then to get a GED. So for your situation it worked out, for others its stupid.
As for the guy in the thread. Finish off the year, ski as much as you can and just focus on progressing every time your out. Then once summer hits, make some mad cash and move to a ski town.

it will probably challenging.. but seeing as i got a 4.0 on 20 credits a term while working 25 hours a week, and smoking pot in every free hour i had, id say im up for it, but i think i am going to school in austria instead anyhow.

you can come to whistler and do distant ed, or one of the skier programs and only go to skool 2 or 3 days aweek, ski all the rest. if you do distant ed then there is no days at skool....but its hard to motivate yourself to work.

i didnt read the whole thing, i skipped the last sentence so sorry if this makes no sense.
but seriously, what is so bad about skiing by yourself? it might get a little boring, but i will almost guarantee that you would get a lot better man. i know thats not what its all about, just being good but you would get damn good if you just skied by yourself. i can basically guarantee it.
