Pro skiiers equitment question

shortly before posting this thread i watched tanners little armada movie that was posting under the "for all u tanner hatters" and he brought to attention how thier skis that he skis are the same that u buy in the shop. how many pros are skiing on skis that have the same topsheet as the models available to the customaer but have different cores desinged to meet the need of the specific pro anyone have any comment on this

yeah alot of companies have their pros riding on different stuff just with the same topsheet. such as Eric Pollard used to ride prophets but they were much wider, 145mm waist i believe but they looked the same as 130's.

probably since freestyle skiing is getting so much more popular, companies are producing the skis that pros use, because they know people will dish out the cash

Most of the pipe skiers have extra layers of fiberglass for stiffness.

Tanner was lying when he said that. Look at his 06 Pipe run. He had the white t-halls topsheet, but with the base was from the pipe cleaners

^well that's because the pipe cleaner hadn't been released yet right?

I think a lot of pros are just using the new stuff that comes out later for everybody else.

salomon used to make woood core skis for their pro riders, with sandwich construction .(maybe its still like that correct me if im wrong)

yea they definatly get the newer and better stuff...but who can blame em!!!

they design all the stuff they ski anyway

eric pollard even does all the own artwork on his skis

and yea those have to be 150's

it looks like a freakin snowboard!!!

eh, makes sence. Still, I think alot of companies have thier riders on skis custom made to thier needs.(flex, width, camber, length....)

the definately always have newer top sheet designs than what is on the market and probably the actual ski its self too

peter olenick had same top sheet as the trusters like 2 years back with last years bases and core. this year the Team SPK have like ultra ultra light foam core. lighter than there skis already are. and the dumonts got wood core

i might not be soo much that they have completely custom made skis, but they are probably just all kinds of new prototypes and stuff to test out. they put the graphics from the production line of skis so that they dont get millions of people asking questions/thinking the pros are getting way nicer gear. its probably not that they get better stuff not available to the public necessarily, but more that its just new ideas for cores and bases and shapes that they are just testing.

meh, pollard skis on his normal ones too, most of the stuff that's different is experimental. salomon is the company most known for this, dynastar also will put an extra layer of fiberglass for their pros occasionally. but for the most part the skis are the same, or just the next years. the scratches are exactly the same, K2s are the same other than maybe the big mountain skis for people like seth, volkl's are exactly the same, the list goes on, pros usually ski the same stuff being sold.

Seth skis the exact same skis as you or I can buy off the shelf. Granted, he's only about 5'9 and skis the 189.

I know he's said that, but I've also heard from another member on the K2 team that he had like 5 different versions of the Seths and each one had a different flex.  Pretty sure these were for the 2nd season seth pistols (green ones). 

So while I know he has been adament about it for several years, I have heard different.  I do trust the info from the other rider, too, so not really sure what to believe.

I saw a pair of Pollard's prototype Prophets show up on ebay last year - New in plastic - 172s with 170-150-168 sidecut (I think that is what it was). They looked just like the Prophet 130s from 05-06. Somebody bought them for $600.
