Torrenting an operating system?

basically...vista is the worst operating system in the world...and after buying a 4 grand laptop(CLAIM...but its canadian) and finding that nothing works and everything i try to fix starts new problems ive decided to go back to xp. Now i dont have any old xp discs lying around and cant find anyone with one and since im cheap and dont really want to buy one how sketchy is it to torrent one?...and would i be able to convert my files from vista to xp?..but i guess i could just back up the files i want to keep just wondering.

i've heard of lots of peeps doing it....and nothing seems ot have happened to them.....and if you live in Canada its less likely that any agency will come after you. You could always try to figure out Linux? I think it is freee.

if you're reverting back to an illegal copy of xp ur gona have to format ur hard drive and start over. good luck finding all ur laptop drivers for xp if your rig was built for vista.

you will have to reformat.. And to ^.... a device w/ vista drivers but not XP drivers? hahaha i dont think that'd ever happen.
what are your laptop specs? I've been running vista for 4 months now on my laptop and have had nothing but pleasant experiences... works great. So fast, sexy, and very stable. Sometimes i go a week or two w/o ever rebooting.
But to answer your question, it's not sketchy to torrent an OS.
