Basically it says. The Government is selling a worldwide wireless communication network type thing, if google buys it they will give everyone free internet and free cell phone coverage.

Its one guys theory about why Google would possibly want to buy the 700MHz spectrum. Basically governments auction off space on the radio spectrum so that companies can run their services on the part that they buy. This article is speculating that Google would buy the 700MHz spectrum and then offer free connection to a type of 'Google broadband' that would be accessed off a Google phone. It would be able to be free because Google basically makes its money from selling advertising space. The article says that it would essentially be the end of other cellphone providers as they wouldn't be able to compete with Googles free service.

All of the stuff they talked about would still only apply to the US though

yea google aren't dumb enough to put obtrusive advertising anywhere. all their advertising is targeted and relevant to what you searched, or in gmail topics in your email. It would more likely have targeted advertising to relate to subjects of txts etc and advertising when it starts up

which means free cellphone network

which means no one will pay for cell phone plans ever again

which means telecommunications companies will become a thing of the past.

That would be really cool. Google is not an evil corporation. At least not yet. They make their money through simple use. Fuck the over priced cell phone companies internet and phone use should and will be free very soon.
