yeah man, they still have an inner eye. you know like located in the middle of your forehead but not visible. 3rd eye, that's it but yeah i'm sure they can see somethin. otherwise going throughout the entirety of life with out being able to see...that's just unfair!

this is actually a really thought provoking idea, if someone is blind their whole life, never seen the outside world, how would they know what everything looks like in their dreams? how do they know what everything is? wow this one has me stumped

theres a girl at my school who was blinde since birth, and she dreams in sound and stuff like that, but cant see anything.
people who could see when they where yunger can see in dreams, because they know what stuff looks like. I guess thats why? not sure, but I know they can

If you were blind your whole life you wouldn't know what you looked like, or you wouldn't know what you looked like if you never saw a mirror or a reflection in water...........
The weird thing is, even if someone was trying to describe something to you an dyou had always been blind, You would have no Idea what they were takling about..... Say they were trying to describe a box. they wouldn't know what a square was or a line.
Actually never mind what I just said I guess they can feel and then someone could tell them what that was....
I'm Stupid.

naw, but colors are different, you can describe colors without using things that you can see, like, green as a leaf, or red as an apple, b/c they've never seen them

probably not if you are blind from birth. if you have never had the experience of vision or images, then there is no way that you could process images.
they very well could be seeing something in thier minds, but i wonder if the brain could convert feeling a persons face to an image of what they look like.
this is making my head hurt.

thats along the same line of something that ive been pondering for many a year. I know this isnt possible, its all hypothetical but if someone from birth is put into a dark box where they couldnt see hear or feel anything but the walls, would they be able to think? if they dont know anything but the box, never learned to talk or have never heard or seen anything, what would their brain process be like. this obviously isnt possible bc food and all is a problem but what if. its always left me curious.

Guys, they dream of sensations and sounds... as said above. You dream of what you experience and that's not always visual things. If that's hard to imagine, think about having a dream in which you are blindfolded the whole time. You don't see anything, but you still experience sensations throughout the dream.

i thought of something like that as well. like what if you isolated a person and they didnt learn to speak a language for 20 years? what would they be saying? would they be cavemen?

i mean.. when you hold something with your eyes closed you can picture it in your head right? So they hold things so they must be able to picture it. I think they see althought it might not be correct.

what id like to know is what colour do totally blind people see? and would they know theyre seeing nothing? i cant really describe it, but would their blindness look black like a blindfold, or would the abscense of sight be such a given that they dont even notice it?

I've heard that for people that lose their sight its black or grey? not too sure on that one though. but I guess if they were blind from birth they wouldn't know what colours were so they couldn't describe it to anyone?

They don't see. Anything.
Even when we close our eyes, we still SEE, but we see the black and red of the back of our eyelids. They don't see. They don't know what it's like to see. They don't see colors, they don't see blackness... they just don't see. When you are blind from birth your visual cortex is converted to a different sense, mainly touch and sound. This is why blind people can read braille so easily while we just feel a bunch of bumps. They essentilly lose the part of their brain responsible for sight; it's taken over by another sense, giving them much better perception in that area.
It's really hard to comprehend not seeing anything, not even blackness, but that's what it's like. Definitely bows your mind thinking about it.

Couldnt they imagine things? like we (people who can see) can picture things that weve never seen before/ dont exsist....so couldnt they?

They don't really have a visual cortex... so no. The part of their brain responsible for visual perception is no longer there, so even when dreaming they don't 'see' anything; they don't have the ability to. However, they percieve sounds and feeling in an almost extrasensory way, something we can never imagine. What they lack in vision they make up for in the other senses.

why couldnt they dream with images. without being able to see you can still imagine what things might look like. so really they should be able to dream not about things as they are but as they imagine things to be

Does anyone else find this a little bit depressing? It would suck to be blind! But then again...you would have like super hearing and smell and touch so...that would be kinda neet. But yeah...it would still be not so much fun. Just think...could a completely blind person ski???

they might be blind but they still have an imagination and thats what dreams are, your imagination i meen how is a blind person going to remember everything in his or her house you still get mental image say when a blind person woks frew his house he has a mental image of where furniture and stuff is so if some one has and imagination they can dream

no they dont have a mental image. remember, blind people can not even see colour. they dont even know how a square looks like, they cant imagine the physical appearance of anythin because they've never seen anything, they just feel it. they can imagine the texture of and sound an object makes, but it leaves no drawn image in their minds. so most likely their dreams are about their other senses. taste, touch, hear, but not see.

i still really think that they CAN see somthing in their dreams. Just nothing that we can comprehend. But you know...theres really only one way to find out...ask someone who has been blind since birth. And i'm on it!
