This is a way of getting more power, more trust etc...If someone says something you like you give them positive rep power (+1) and if you don't like what they say or it is pointless you give them (-1). This is kept in a record on your profile and you can look at the rep you have been given or taken off their. Everyone Starts at plus 1 rep. The rep number can be shown somewhere in the area where the name and avatar area is. Anyone dig?
no because then their will be alias accounts to give urself rep and you will give people bad rep just because they gave you bad rep
trust me it doesnt work
Here is the FAQ from the site I got this idea from:
The user reputation system is used to attempt to identify and reward members of .... that make a continued and constructive contribution to the site be it through posts, articles or reviews they have made. Members with a high reputation will have made many constructive and informative posts to the site and have been registered on the web site for some time. You will also find them to be very well respected by other members of the web site.
The user reputation works as follows: For every post or article on the forums you can give or take away reputation points from the member that made the post by clicking on the "scales" icon within the post or article in question. This will pop-up a window allowing you to leave a positive to negative comment regarding the post. A constructive comment must be left and this comment will then become viewable by the member within their user control panel.
If the reputation comment you leave is positive then you will increase that member's reputation points total by the amount of influence points you have at that time. Conversely, if you leave a negative comment then you will reduce that member's reputation points total but by half of your reputation influence points total. The reason for this slight difference is to discourage people from constantly leaving negative reputation comments.
Obviously, if you have no reputation influence points (and all members initially start off with zero influence points) then you cannot change another member's reputation points total regardless of the reputation comments you leave them.
Like most systems the user reputation system could become the victim of abuse and cynical use by other members. To discourage this behaviour the following limitations have been put in place:
* When giving other users positive or negative reputation points, you must leave a comment for your submission to be accepted. These messages are not anonymous, and users/moderators may identify the authors of all comments made using the reputation system.
* In order to leave a reputation comment and have an impact on other member’s reputation points totals you must be a registered member of the web site, have made at least 50 posts and have reputation influence points of your own.
* In any one 24 hour period reputation comments can only be left for a maximum of 10 different members.
* Reputation comments cannot be left for the same member until other reputation comments have been left for at least 20 other members.
what people say should be read regardless of post count or respect, just because you are new or dont take it seriously all the time doesnt mean you dont have something amazing to say every once in a while.
I've seen a lot of sites where this system is manipulated. It's called Rep Circles... basically people conspire to max out each other's rep falsely... I know it sounds retarded but you all know it would happen.
Some posts I look at on here are so pointless and unneeded but some are actually extremely helpful. I just think a rep system would help you choose who to listen to and who to not take seriously.
i dont
i can tell if someone is being serious by their poost
if u cant then ur a dumbass
i know if sn0wbl0w posts something hes either trying to be funny or trying to bring his post count up, if a mod or someone like nomensteven i know its legit
This is just the dumbest idea i haev ever heard of..ther is so much that ns could do that would be better than this..and people know who is good and bad...so who the fuck cares!
it will be who has the most karma and stuff lets leave the site like it is now ! please.. BUT if we do a karma thing we should have a limit not jive some has much as we can like 2 positive 2 negative per day something like that
Obviously, if you have no reputation influence points (and all members
initially start off with zero influence points) then you cannot change
another member's reputation points total regardless of the reputation
comments you leave them.
then it is impossible to get them, because everyone starts with 0 and you cant rate with 0 BAM YOUR SYSTEM FAILS!
kay, the rep is a bad idea, but, ive seen this on pinkbike.com, the 'props' system, where theres a comment, and beside it theres like a thumbs up or down, so a good comment gets like a +40 props lets say, and a bad one gets like -40 or something. if the comments go below, lets say -10 props, they are not visible anymore, unless you click a certain button.
I think some type of karma system would be great, but I think letting members give out rep points or whatever is gonna get out of hand. Remember the demographic you have on here. You have to be careful who you give the power to, because it would be abused.
