So, some of my friends want to go to Canada to party in the beginning of August. We live in Michigan, so it isn't that far of a drive. I know the drinking laws changed in Canada or are going to, but I don't know when or to what, so hopefully NS can help me. I just turned 19 last week, would I be able to drink in the bars if I go in the beginning of August?
the way i hear it the laws for drinking in Canada are like whatever your parents just said... completely pointless. In whistler my bro got into most bars and he was only 17 or 18.
Oh fuck, war of 1812 debate, here we go. In any case:
Legal age in Alberta and Quebec: 18
Anywhere else: 19
You probably wont get ID'd in small towns but in cities (Windsor for you i suppose)bring a convincing fake.
All that shit about whatever your aprents want is bullcrap, it changes from parents to parents. Luckily mine brew wine so my families hammied every weekend.
buddy,.. take u balls and take a bucket of ice..
combine the two and chill ur nuts.
its NOT CHANGING and if it was going to change it would probably take over 10 years with all the stupid government crap it would have to go through. not to mention the protests
i'd laugh so fucking hard if they put it back up to 21+!!!!!!
let's put it this way, i was born in feb. and in ontario we had grade 13 in highschool. lunch time was great. my buddy and i would go to the bar for 2lbs of wings and a pitcher of beer. loved being one of the first people in my grade to be legal
yes. I am also typing from an igloo. Dumbass.
Liquor law enforcement is just as severe as it is in the US, except for Quebec. I have gotten and most people my age do get ID'd, I have had to leave bars before, because I am underage. It's stupid, and stupider that people care for their liquor licence.
what?? liquor license is everything for a bar!! the fine for a bar if the police find an underage kid is like 1000$ or something like that.I just wish you could all live in Quebec you could all speak french, eat poutine and buy beer at the dépanneur when youre 12 y.o.
people can criticize bars all they want for kicking them out when they're underage. fyi - their licence is a little more important to them than you getting a beer.
personally i like bars that put the age up to 21+. much less bullshit to deal with like kids coming out on their 19th birthday and causing shit or any other time for that matter. when it's an older crowd the music tends to be better, less fights, less trashy club sluts and best of all, no little shits getting so plastered that they end up spilling their drink on you.
^^I know what you mean I went in bars in ontario and new-brunswick. Thats another good thing about Quebec, everybody start drinking when there 13 or 14 so when they get to 18, they already did all the stupid stuff that you do when you drink for the first time.
