bhphotovideo.com is the way to go. HV30 is a great choice. I have an HV20 as a B cam for my XHA1 and I love it.
deffinatly go sony there the most reliable company and there cameras are always top of the line. i have a vx1000 and it is relle clear and works great and iv havent had any problems with it
the vx1000 is definatly a good camera, i dont think anyone can call it bad. for how much it costs and how old it is its amazing how good it is. when shot right you can get extremely good looking footage that no other camera seems to be able to replicate. so between the vx and gl1 id go with a vx for sure, gl1's are just nothing special, but if its a gl2 then its a different story, gl2's are awesome.
i honestly get extremely sick of most the footage coming from HD cameras. literally every edit i see is extremely overly sharp, the colors are brighter than the fucking sun, and everything just pretty much looks like some video game. like look at the new rage film, i bought it, watched half of it and turned it off, the cinematography seriously just pissed me off so much that i had to stop watching, it was just like staring at the brightest, glowing video game footage you could imagine. the skiing did nothing for me even though i knew alot of it was amazing, honestly i liked the old rage footage from booter crunk and courderoy alot more and those were shot with vx2k's and it wasnt very good footage for a vx2k.
everyone just thinks HD means better nomatter what and it just isnt true. its good for alot of stuff and its only gonna get better, but right now there really isnt an HD camera for around 2 grand that i would take over something like a dvx. i just think it all looks like shit. maybe its just that people film like shit with their HD camera's, but ive seen so many more good looking footage from vx21k, gl2, and dvx's than i have from most HD shit. not saying that all HD footage ive seen is bad, there have been some edits that i thought looked amazing coming from a hvx, fx1, a1 etc.. but not many.
this is all an opinion, i know more people disagree than agree, i guess you could compare it to alot of stuff, like old cars vs new. like new cars are safer, faster, more fuel efficent, but with an old car you are more connected, its more simple and straight forward, easier to maintain, and more fun and just like raw car. some people prefer one over the other and they all have their reasons.
lets just all admit that super 8 and 16mm kill any prosumer camera and all be happy!
