I'm just learning myself, it's insane how powerful the kite is. It and windsurfing are two sports lacking in participation from younger people, both sports are crazy fun but for some reason you don't see very many young people doing them (at least on the east coast).

Definitely get into it if you can!

I never tried, but i am probably gonna buy one. I looks so cool, u can go so high, but the probleme is that it is quite expensif, and it is easy to brake the matirial. U need big beaches without any trees, and people............

I've seen guys on snowboards and skateboards doing that is big open fields. Looks really cool and the one snowboarder I saw was getting tons of speed doing turns around teh feild and would do little 180s and grabs and stuff.

we saw a guy get destroyed on one of hose while we were in florida. it was really windy and he got like picked up real high and droppedl ike a rock onto the sand. it looks like fun though

The skateboarders and people hardly ever left teh ground tehy just used them for speed on teh flat ground.

You can get a decent kite for around $400, and a board and harness used is another $175-250ish. About the same as skiing I would say price wise. If you have no prior experience with windsports DONT teach yourself, find someone experienced or take a lesson or you'll end up with some broken bones or worse. Its extremely fun though even when you're just learning.

It seems to me that kiting is sort of where skiing was 10 years ago. People go for gnarly stuff and big air. That makes sense as a new sport. However there is a new movement towards "wake style" riding. Wakestyle is about not getting huge air, but popping and doing similar tricks to wakeboarding and hitting sliders and shit (as far as i understand at least).

Anywho, new kiteboards are fucking expensive ($600-1000). I found this company called Tona though. All their riders and developers are pretty wakestyle and their boards are made by the same manufacturer as Ronix wakeboards, so they're well constructed and super durable. I haven't yet read a bad review. They sort of seem like Line skis in the beginning. Their board is only $500 and you get $100 + free shipping if you buy ronix boots with it.

I picked up one of the boards and i'm heading to cape hatteras for a week in june with my parents to learn. gonna buy a kite or two down there as well

If you can't figure out google, I'm confused as to how you got onto newschoolers.

still trying to figure out how i found newschoolers, haha. Anyways if you want wind be prepared to drive north. Socal gets shit for wind. I've been kiting for over 6 years and have friends in the newport area, not to toot my own horn but i'm not talking out of my ass on this.

Yeah modern freestyle is all about keeping the kite low and powered, stuff like the Redbull King of the Air is still awesome though.

If you're into wakeboarding, it might be easier, but I think learning in boots might be kind of hard, maybe start with just straps.

I'm just packing up my gear to head to Peru to kite for 4 weeks, just coming back from breaking my hand really badly, so hopefully it works ok!

my sister lived in manhattan beach for a couple of years, still not that windy when compared to going north. i'm there's days here and there but as far as strong consistent wind socal isn't the best place
