I'm coming from the East Coast and once i graduate from college next spring, i wanted to move out west. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on mountains that are good for employees. I've heard good things about Alta/Snowbird seems to be one choice of mine as well as Baker. Also been looking at Northern Cali and Oregon. Basically I don't care what state as long as it's got the goods. One that is good to their employees would be heavily considered by me as I have worked in this industry and understand how unforgiving some people can be.
yeah what the guy above said...it almost always never works out to your benefit if you actually work for the mountain. much better off getting some gig in town (restaurent's are always rad as fuck anyway during that time) and just sacking up and buying the pass/being lucky enough to know of a way to get it discounted or some deal...ive worked at a bunch of resorts and unless your only priority is to be a complete ski bum and do nothing else besides work at the mountain, get paid almost next to nothing, except if youre lucky enough to land a bomber job, and then live off of nothing...id look for a job elsewhere.
I'd have no problem working at a restaurant in the surronding area...
I was just looking to get some input on mountains that have a balance of great west coast skiing and a great city or town to live in. Basically what is a good ski town out west.
Alpine Meadows in Tahoe is a great place to ski and I've heard they are good to their employees. It probably the most local of the mountains in Tahoe, no big development and it's no owned by some big cooperation.
Or, if you fancy, anywhere else you like in British Columbia.
Instead of getting sh*tty pay, long hours (usually whole days, 9-3) teaching beginners, living with other random staff and sharing cr*ppy locker rooms, as an instructor, why not just have sh*tty pay?
If you work at a restaurant or bar or something, enough to pay some rent with some buddies, you can work [more flexible] good hours, and meet other people to ski with (assuming you can afford a pass or something). And then ski whenever your not working... :D
i see...consensus seems to be work as a waiter which is good because i have experience.
Whitewater I was looking at as well.
Also, any idea about Telluride or Steamboat? I have two buddies, one who worked at Telluide and one at Steamboat. Both loved em...any input on those? However I did hear it is kind of expensive in Colorado.
Haha I apologize in advance for being so scatterbrained about the West but I want to get an idea on the best place possible.

Holy crap, I guess they don't teach English at your college.
There's also a little box at the top of the page with the word 'search' to the right. Try it out, this question is asked, and answered, at least once a month around here.
Because I wrote it quickly and left out a comma? I forgot about the test we're having on grammatically correct context and syntax for posting in an open forum. cough*cough
Seems the other people on here didn't mind posting helpful information for someone who doesn't use this website often.
haha, good question...well ill finish up with pre-law and a minor in history.
But that's not really why i want to be out there. I'm going to eventually end up going to law school but i just want to take some time off before i go.
theres almost no reason too the first couple of years out of college if u lookin to ski a lot. I just graduated college and all my friends have shit jobs. You can make good money workin as a server at a restaurant plsu the hours as amazing for skiing. Im doing the exact thing as you and thats what im gonna do. The best is to find a restaurant thats attached to the resort so u can still get your pass. For example -Grizzlies at Stratton or any restaurant at a Hotel.
