Replying to Wirelss Network Connection HELP

I just bought a buddies laptop from him and after reformatting and reinstalling all the drivers and whatnot I am finding it impossible to connect to the wireless network in my apartment. I have the most recent update for the wireless adapter driver. I can see all the available wireless networks and when I try to connect to the one for my apartment it says "Limited or no connectivity." I have tried repairing the connection but when I do that it can't complete repairing. It stops while trying to "Renewing your IP address." I'm thinking that is the problem. Anyone have any idea on what is up? Any help would be great because it's kinda useless without the internet for now. THANKS
