and it really doesnt seem that amazing even though everyones worshipping pollard, pep and andys balls. just looks like people havin fun on uber fat rockers
im not saying its not difficult im just saying that the movie doesn't seem any more special then any other movie comeing out this year and i dont see why theres such the big hype over powder skiing on rockered skis
Way wrong, buttering and landing switch in pow the way those guys do it so much harder and pushing the envelope of skiing than a switch 1440 or whatever Schiller is throwing this week, not that I'm saying TJ is a bad skier or anything like that, but he's riding perfectly formed and maintained jumps and just hucking his meat and spinning as fast as possible...the level of switch pow riding that these three are doing is unlike anything else seen in skiing before, a 1440, or a double flip isn't(think: aerials). Not to mention the style aspect.
you are clearly retarded or blind if you dont think the double flips at JOI didnt have style. And to say a sw 1440 is easier then riding powder switch is also pretty dumb. IMO Idea is just following around 3 washed up athletes that cant keep up with the rate of progression. Sure butter 3 off a cliff is hard, but they are pros they are supposed to do hard shit. i dunno why you guys are want to suck their cocks so bad
everyone isn't progressing towards the same goal. pollard's been sayin it for the longest time, this isnt the movie where you are going to see crazy 1440's everywhere, corked everything, and swithup after switchup. idea is totally different where its more like everyday skiing. its where the riders are looking for new and inventive lines to get down the mountain in a completely new way. so for me, yes they are the bar for progression i like to see. for people in the spin to win contest and more park oriented people, no.
Well this is probably the most resonable and clever point of view i think.Nobody says Park sucks and sucks too much,or urban.Nobody says the only progression of the sport is backcontry or big mnt.
It is just a question of ur own. That is what we re all involved in-FREESKIING.We are out there choosing are own ways of contemplating our favorite activity-SKIING.We choose what we wanna shred according to our favors, physical state.
For example me....i was shredding park so hard and in two season i had several devastating injurys...and it was so serious that i could become an invalid or even loose my legs.
I had to give up skiing LIKE COMPLETELY!But i didnt want to lose hope and began hard rehab training-running,work out, etc.
So the hope appeared and doctors said that i can ski but not that hard no big spins-it can destruct joins,no icy landings....to hard agin and so on and so forth.
And i tried to go another way....some more actual skiing, backontry slow stylish spins in pow.AND U KNOW WHAT ?
IT MADE ME SOOO STOKED!I felt in love with skiing agin...descovering it's new and other aspects.
And films like IDEA...make me even more stoked on that...and keep goin!
yo plus they got a special edit of 17 minutes from shiest.D with the all 9thward crew, laurent thevenet, yannick jobin, anthony holland, luka ramelli, jesus, greg tusher, anthony vuignier who's sven's from kya bamba's lil bruh', and a whole bunch of hommeez...
No, no, no, popping around sw or dropping a little cliff to fakie may not be hard, but what they do is. hitting cliffs, enormous step downs and skiing sw on steep pitches is. Park is a controlled environment, you land your trick and Hoorayy! you're done. Why do you think that whenever a movie has a segment about some new park dude going into the bc it is almost always portrayed as eye-opening, humbling experience?
It takes more balls and skill imo to stand atop a line and ski over a rollover towards a cliff you cant see yet and set a 180 where failure will inevitably involve some unpleasant tomahawking then it does to keep adding another 180 degrees on park jumps where you have your speed dialed pretty well and know that if you come to your feet at the correct rotation you have a very good chance of landing.
Maybe i shouldnt have said it was easy but i think their are alot of other athletes that are doing way crazier and harder and just as stylish stuff then these 3
crazy, harder stylish isn't the point dude. it's about truly combining newschool with the backcountry. not just hitting a bc booter. about making progressive lines that no one has done or come anywhere near yet. imagine a cork 5 cliff drop to sw ripping to a switch 5 off a lower cliff...how fucking awesome would that be. thats what they're trying to do.
you don't find it gay how limited skiers are in powder, that we have to land forward in anything steep/deep/sketchy. being able to pop a 180 and be as jibby in pow as you can on a groomer is fucking cool, and they're doing it.
^i never said they rip big lines
Obviously trying to say they rip big mountain like seth or hugo is stupid.
I find it hard to compare park to what pollard and others do as well but i guess i entered this argument so whatever.
You may prefer watching park but saying they are not pushing a part of skiing as hard as anyone is pushing any part of skiing is impossible for me to agree with.
Go out and try stuff even slightly like what they are doing, its hard as shit. Back country jumps and even more so big mountain is so much harder than park, its so much more complicated both mentally and physically. Imo its much harder to potray that stuff in videos than park skiing.
It may not be your favorite thing, but that doesnt mean you cant at least give it the respect it deserves.
You're acting like these guys can't ski park...when in fact Pollard has been killing it in the park longer than most of the guys you're watching have been known.
And did you happen to see Andy and Pep's Park City edit? throwing 270 (regular and switch) onto rails, and doing nosepresses with hands in the pockets? Please...show me some more people that can do that. And if watched any of the videos from the K2 Back 9, Andy did -first hit- switch 7, and zero spun the second jump in the line on one of the holes...these guys have been pushing it for years, how about the shot of Andy throwing that 180-to-halfcab off the double stagger cliff in Freeskier last year? I'll try to find my magazine a scan that in, just to show you whats up...
The point is these guys are amazing, they're proven themselves in park, and now they want to push riding in a new direction.
damnit... can ns just accept that idea will be a sick movie for some people but others would enjoy the level 1 vid wiht more urbans. its all about opinion... for some , progression is bigger better butters off cliff, but for others its a kangaroo flip. we should be gettin caught up in which is better becuase its basically opinion. personally i think both are sick... pep and andy kill it all around while ive got the same respect for tj and jon. cant we just see it as some gnar shredding all around and go out and ski for the sake of skiing?
Anyone remember mike d's opening shot in happy days? i always thought that was the best clip of the whole movie. I dont get a chance to ski powder often but i know if i could ski it all the time i would be in the park half as much as i am now, and i know i would wanna try shit like they are doing. Think of doing the cruzing runs playing around on the sides of the trail that you all do but in waist deep and 20 foot cliffs, none of you guys would be jumping right into doing butter 5s like you can on a roller. I think its sick and cant wait for the movie
ps, people, please do not illegaly download this for free after it comes out. these guys deserve the money and if you buy one ski movie this year, this should be it.
