Okay, i just found out i cant ski for 3 (THREE) years

Jea, basicly my ski hit a rock while skiing off piste, and my hip was injured. This happened in march. Just came home from the doctors, and i cant ski or do any physical stuff for 3 years, beside cycling and swimming :( I am fucking devastated. And if i ski or run or something, my hip might break and i have to replace it, and that is NOT good ...

if a doctor told me i couldnt ski for 3 years id just be like "whatchoosay!" slap him accros the face and then get a second (better) opinion

just keep your mind positive brother. just work out with trainers and physical therapy and i bet its like that a year and a half before your back out there.

i collapsed my long skiing, wasnt supposed to do any physical activity for 6 months, and i was sliding rails and hitting smaller jumps again in slightly over a week. i think you'll be skiing slightly sooner than three years...

get a really nice downhill/freeride bike and find some local spot to shred up. But do everything the doctor says, excersize it alot and your recovery time will be quicker.

Jeje, i have a doctors appointment every 3. month, os the next is in early october or something.

What happened to my hip( Actually the top of the hip bone, the "ball"(i am not very good in english medical expressions :p)) Was twisted, and some of the protective layer on top of it was broken. And that wil have to heal, and for that to happen i wiil have to cycle(road of course, not any impacts on the hip) so that new bloodveins(sp) will be created to the hipbone, and it will heal faster. And if it doesnt heal, and i get a lot of impacts on it, the hip bone will dissolve and i must replace it ( And that is NOT going to be an option)

I am doing a lot of cycling, so i hope that in the winter i can go to the hill and just be the photographer, and not jump or do anything crazy. I have at least 2 doctor appointments before winter, so we'll see.

man.....I feel so bad for you....I snowboard, but we all love the same general sport....I wouldn't be able to last without boarding or skiing....wish you luck on healing man.

Damn Bud. Hang in there! Mtn. Biking can be a good time too. Keep your eyes on positive things! (easier said than done in this situation). Biking is killer for your skiing. Come back stronger!

Hey. A small update. My leg is currently fine, and has been for the last six months. Hasn't been much skiing though, as i am finishing my final year in school. Actually surprised someone was able to find this thread, seeing as it's so old.

doctors just like to piss you off by saying you cant do shit I got a concussion in december of 08 and they still say I cant ski and shit and it was a VERY minor concussion

but all sarcasm aside, injuries suck major major ass.... the pain isnt even bad, its just knowing i could be out for a long time that really gets to me every time i get hurt. every bad fall i take too, i just try to stand up and move everything around to make sure im ok.

Yeah the fake hip they give you WILL NOT hold up to any of the physical activities you want to do, aggressive skiing extra, I was thinking about getting my elbow replaced and the doctor told me not to unless i was an 80 year old man who really didn't need it for anything physical.
