Jea, basicly my ski hit a rock while skiing off piste, and my hip was injured. This happened in march. Just came home from the doctors, and i cant ski or do any physical stuff for 3 years, beside cycling and swimming :( I am fucking devastated. And if i ski or run or something, my hip might break and i have to replace it, and that is NOT good ...
SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTT
I am so angry now, why the fuck did i have to bail !!! AAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHH

Dude, doctors often over exagerate. If you focus on rebuilding yourself, i bet you can ski sooner than that. And honestly mang, mountain biking is just as dope as skiing. There are a shit ton of other things to do out there, you just got to look for them.

yeah dude keep your hopes up. like the guy above me said, doctors overexaggerate things. after a head injury a week and a half ago, one doctor said i shouldn't do anything strenuous for a month. i went to another doctor two days ago and he cleared me right away saying i should have be able to exercise from the begging. i'd get a second opinion. sorry for the luck man. hope all goes well

i dont get what you can do to your hip that keeps you from doing anything physical for 3 years. i can see one year but not 3. unless you did something to your hip and pelvis and femur, than i can see. but just your hip? wtf. i dislocated mine and was back in like 2 weeks.

Yeah man, listen to your doctors and physios and take it easy but 3 years seems a bit extreme. Go to a physio next winter and get a second opinion.
I had my large intestine removed last October. My doctors said I wouldn't be able to ski hard any more. 4 months later I learned 270 on/450 off and underflips.

first man, thats shit news. second, 3 years is VERY excessive. yes, you dont wanna push it too hard, but docters HAVE TO cover thier ass, chances youll be better ALOT sooner.
third, the biking, 100% for sure. ive always been into DH/freeriding, but since i cant do that with my knee right now, ive been gettin real heavy into road biking. its alot more fun than youd imagine, they are so fast, theres lots of times you feel like your on a motorcycle. its incredibly good exercise too, my knee is in impeccable shape, and i do 100-300 miles aweek. maybe pick up a cheap old steel racebike if your ona budget, and then a lil later invest in something nice, ti or something. my personal advice, is to stay away from full carbon frames. they are light as fuck, but they go dead after a couple years of hard riding, and are hard/impossible to repair (like frame damage). titatium and steel ride the best, and are (usually) cheaper.

Really sorry to hear about the injury man. Like has been said, just do your best to get yourself back together and get a second opinion. You might have another doctor tell you that you need less time off then you thought, but worst case scenario you get a guy to give you a few more ideas on how to properly get back to where you can ski again.

werd mountain biking is epic... but, do you think the doctor meant mtb when he said cycling? seems like mtb could be just as bad (if not worse) than skiing...?

rough, im sure you can cut that time down if you work out

getting your hip replace isn't that bad. my dad is 57 and he has two artifical hips. the last one was put in a year ago and now he can pretty much run anywhere and added about 50 yards to his drives. he can ski now and everything too.
but i understand. that sucks. hope you get better. take lots of vitamins and drink lots of milk.

correction: not that bad if you have thousand and thousands of dollars to spend on hip replacement surgery.

I have a dentist who's like that. It's like the bitch looks for shit to do to make money, if she can think of some lame procedure and reason to make you have it, you're gonna get it. She said I needed my wisdom teeth out pronto, I asked the other dentist in the building (who i now see exclusively) and he said he didn't think they needed to come out any time soon. He thought the procedure would be easier in a few months, and he also told me what i needed to know, whereas the bitch just said "get em out, sooner rather than later"

yeah as people have said, doctors have to overexaggerate so that some person who gets pissed off sues them when they DO take 3 years instead of the 1 year that they said originally or whatever. just keep training and hope for the best. try to do pt and stuff. DON'T try to push it before it's ready, i tried that with my shoulder in tennis and now i have to do pt for a month to get it back. if i had just rested it i would have been good to go way before now.

The doctor said I wouldn't be able to do anything active for 6 months when I broke my collarbone. I was skiing in 3.
