To be fair and quite possibly cement my position as Worst NS Member, I will say that photography is the hugest source for reconnaisance and planning of nasty attack-like thingies. Of course this is the wrong way to deal with it, but the right way would be not being international douchebags, which we've already fully invested ourselves.

dude, unless they made up this entire story from the tops of there heads, its way out of hand. Banning photography or filming to any degree in a public place is absurd. If only 1/10 of this was true, which is possible, i would still be flipping out over it.

They are not banning anything. There is already a law in place like this everywhere. It sounds like they are tweaking the specifics of the law and this site is making it sound like the government is trying to hide something or suppress the people... or some bullshit like that. Honestly, this is already a law that you need a permit to film.

skiierman strikes again, literally. You do need a permit, but only to film a movie. Most places don't care to enforce the rules, but I pretty sure it doesn't apply to amatuers or tourists. Also that "proposed law" is bullshit, there is no way that is true.

Read the bottom, it's just one example of how retarded you'd have to believe this site and take their opinion as fact.

It seems that filming and photographing is now deemed to be a threat per se. Pick from any number of stories archived at www.freedomtophotograph.com for example.
-In Texas a man was first threatened by neighbors and then reportedly accosted and sprayed with pepper spray by police. He was walking around his neighborhood, filming with his new video camera.

^ Now, why would that be a threat? Well I mean he was being threatened by his neighbors, then taken down forcefully by police... so there must be more to the story then he was just walking around town using his new camera. Fucking idiots, it's just a conspiracy filled, internet shit show.

I wont attack skiierman but I will disagree.

There are quite a few laws regarding no photography areas.
I can understand around nuclear power plants, military bases, etc etc. But the laws are expanding to include innocuous places like bridges, public meeting areas, other architectural things that people would innocently like to take pictures of.

It's a classic example of punishing the masses for the actions of a minority. 'Terrorists' if dedicated enough will still get their pictures of whatever they want. They've proven that's no obstacle. The goal of terrorism is to bring an end to the free-spirit of western lifestyle, and as far as I can see, they've succeeded brilliantly. There's been no major attacks, but I can't take pitures without a lisence, I have to put up with compromises to my rights under the law, I cant bring a damn bottle of water into an airport, I can't wear a backpack if im walking through or by a courthouse or federal building, I can't hold a gathering without a costly permit, and I won't even get into the hoops we jump through now at concerts and public gatherings. We're so paranoid it literally affects our everyday lives. IMO, the terrorists have succeeded in part of their goal, and they haven't had to spend a damn cent to match our trillions of dollars of war debt.

It's reap what you SOW, not sew.  It's a reference to farming, as sow means to plant, so you get what you plant/put in the work to do.

As for this whole New York thing, photography is not going to be completely stopped.  They're trying to get people who are making movies or doing huge photoshoots to get a permit, not the amateur snapshooter.  However, places around the country are getting increasingly stupid about public photography.
