Walmart = evil empire

how many agree that walmart is the worst store in the world it just basicly kills the United states economy. I mean they buy almost every thing from china and other asian countries sell it for moderately cheap and they dont have to pay taxes on the stuff that they ship in because china pays no taxes to the u.s. Boost there economy. Then they dont pay their staff anything so there just making of like bandits. Does any one else feel this is complete bullshit. i mean the least the u.s gov could do is to start putting a tax on goods shipped in from china that way they would start buying more u.s. goods.
Also when walmart gets done with a store and like decides to build a supet center or something instead of selling it they leave it so no other stores can purchase it. They dont tare it down they leave it cause they dont want to spend the money. also  they dont give back to the community they are in at all they take business away from the local business. Causing the stores to close and shit. i believe we should do something about this its going to get out of hand and just screw us over.

sorry about the rant i hope some of u agree with me

The spelling and grammar in the first post was so bad I seriously thought it was a joke at first.

Yeah, if it wasn't for WalMart think of how many people couldn't afford some pretty basic items, and people can afford to get items they otherwise couldn't.  I know I wouldn't have nearly as many DVDs if it wasn't for WalMart.  Also, they hire a shitload of people wherever they go, and many of those people are those who wouldn't get jobs any other place.  McDonalds can only take on so many retarded employees. 
WalMart isn't such a bad place, they don't want to take over the world, they just want to maximize profit like any other firm.  Congrats to them for being able to do it as well as they have.  The funny part is I'm sure that in 20 or so years WalMart will be knocked off by some other company that you will all bitch about then.

Just think of how much WalMart saves the consumers while maximizing their own profit, and maybe you will come to realize WalMart isn't so evil after all.

Exactly, you couldn't own all the dvd's you need to survive. Walmart is basically a charity, the way they help the poor.

Wake the fuck up people, walmart's prices don't define the living conditions of the lower class, the minimum wage and the availability of financial aid for those who need it define it. Walmart and corporations like it are yet another barrier to the socio-economic mobility that those on top seem to believe  so strongly exists and use to justify the inequality in our country.

Hey buddy, I wasn't saying DVDs are necessary.  I was just using an example that is probably true of a lot of us.  No, I am not in need of low prices for basic goods, and I'm pretty sure no one in this thread is seeing as we all can afford to ski. 

Yes, Walmart does help the poor by offering entry level jobs and very very low prices and a lot of goods.  Not only do these prices help people that shop at WalMart, they help those who shop elsewhere because it helps keep prices at other stores low.  YOU should "wake the fuck up" and take a look at consumer spending, how is WalMart a "barrier to socio-economic mobility" when it is helping those who do not make a lot of money afford things they would otherwise not be able to?  Yeah, they're really hurting the poor consumers.

When walmart moves into a town it undercuts the prices of all the pre-existing local businesses. That means that those businesses are slowly forced out of business. That means that the profits that were once reaped by local businesses and re-invested into the local economy are instead sent directly to a national chain. This results in less jobs and generally diminished economic prosperity. And again, these entry level jobs are so underpaid that  the indebted US taxpayers are picking up the bill for many of the benefits that Walmart, a hugely profitable corporation, should be providing.

so if a walmart super store opens up and creates say 350 jobs, and then 2 stores close that were only employing 40, thats still 310 more. so how is walmart the downfall of more unemployment?

So Walmart just magically has enough business to employ 350 people while only affecting 40 pre-existing jobs? Are most of the shoppers out of space aliens who would never buy things on earth if it wasn't for Walmart's heroically low prices allowing them to afford their much needed rocket fuel?

Once again, you overlook the money that WalMart saves the average consumer.

Also, you are overlooking all the jobs that are created because of companies that work supplying WalMart.  Sure, the toys may come from China but there are a shitload of products, and nearly 100% of agricultural products, that are made for WalMart in the USA.

I understand that walmart has cheap shit. You don't understand that those short term savings are not good for a stable and prosperous local economy.

The US agricultural industry is extremely fucked up, and that is yet another reason I don't support walmart. It may come from within the United States, but from massive farms that are in no way sustainable, don't contribute to the local economy and are in no way sustainable.

When you buy something at Walmart or other similar stores, sure the prices may be cheap, but the hidden costs far outweigh the short term benefits.

also, why are you bitching about walmart when there are hedge fund managers and "money managers" that create no-risk money making schemes for themselves while fucking not only many americans but a lot of foreigners and smaller governments out of trillions of dollars? At the rate things are going, the dollar and America are going to end up like Russia and the ruble. One day we are going to wake up and the dollar will be worth 1/5000 of what it was the day before.
