I have been thinking about moving to VT for a while. I am a certified snowboarding instructor, with 7 years experience under my belt. I make really good money at the mtn I'm at, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips on what it's like to instruct in VT. I'm definatley thinking Stowe. So if anyone knows, please help. And also, what kind of off season jobs that are available. Decent pay.

tons of off season jobs at stowe, in the town of stowe, and in Burlington, its only 40 mins from burlington.. tons of oppurtuinities with decent pay up there

Right now I have my AASI Level 1, but this comming season I am planning on getting my 2. I don't plan this move until the 08-09 season. So I should definatley have my 2 by then.


And off season jobs...I have experience in fine dining. So if there are any upperclass restaraunts you can think of, that would be great for me to look into. Burlington is my city of choise...Thanks you guys! :)

if you have your level 2 getting a job at nearly any mountain shouldn't be any trouble, coming from another instructor mountains are always looking for experienced and certified people.

Yes I know this. I have experience, I would be hired in a heartbeat. I think I was wondering more what the pay scale is like. Since you instruct, if you don't mind telling me where you teach and what your pay scale is.

Example:
I get paid $10.75/hr for 6.5 hours (I am FT) and 7.5 if I help Ski Patrol sweep.
I get 27.50/hr for every private lesson I teach, which on holidays and weekends can be quite a few.
Plus tips (this is where I work my magic haha)

well i was never certified, i just placed really highly in there instructor training program(like top 10 out of 200 or something) so they kind of ripped me off on the pay. i got 7.50 per hour per lesson. 15 per hour per private lesson. and 30 per hour per requested private lesson. i work at wachusett in Massachusetts, and if i was certified and working full time I'm sure I'd be making your rates.

Isn't Wachussett small? I mean, smaller than Stowe or Smuggs. I'd like to figure out if a bigger mountain pays more. My mountain is run by the state of NY, so I assume that's why my pay scale is a bit larger. I don't want to lose that pay, it's good money.

haha the marsland brothers. funny story. Michelle, myself, and bp went to visit them in the summer and there awkward. and there always threatening to kill me over aim. and they flip a shit when you talk about them. whats up with that?

I lived there for 5 years. YOu're going to have to work your ass off. There's very little in the way of career opportunities in that area of New England, so just a heads up, you're really going to have to go for it. Resturant quality varies and you'll find somewhere nice, and if you have a track record of reliability you'll have no problem getting hired just about anywhere.



The big draw to Burlington is that indeed, you can work evenings and ride during the day, stowe is 40 minutes away, Jay, an hour and half or so... However, I believe you've got a little one, so you may wish to live outside of Burlington so drunken college kids don't corrupt his youth to early.

Hey Milf,
Stratton has alot of people with ALOT of money going there. Lesson Tips are better than anywhere else I've taught and the SB Training program is one of the best in the east. There are 10 level 3's working at Stratton and of them 4 are on AASI Ed Staff. Midweek business is slow but improving. Girls get requested like crazy so you'll never see group lineup on a weekend and it's super easy to build a clientel base.

Manchester is a pretty cool town with a bunch of nice restaurants but kinda slow in the summer. The schools in Machester are pretty good though, Burr & Burton has a good program for the local kids. If you have any questions then give me a shout.
