Gay Bishop in NH

So the the first openly gay bishop has now been elected in NH. I think it's awesome, although (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not Christian) I believe that being a homosexual is contradictary to Christian belief. It makes me happy to see that people can accept and embrace differences, what do you all think?

The episcopal church allows people to be gay I think. Don't read into the bible too much either. It can't be taken literally.

Would him being gay make much of a difference because don't priests practice celibacy? So there would be no sex even for a straight priest. I personally don't think it matters that he says he is gay.

who knows if being gay matters. because it says that in the bible, being gay is not right. but back then, it was a big deal to keep the population up for the people or else they would die and we would have to start over. but now a days it probably is a better thing to keep the population down so being gay may not be wrong. -however- the only input on our religion (what god has said)has is what is in the bible, so we need to trust what it says.

contrary to popular belief being gay is not looked upon as bad, however acting upon those urges is considered wrong as is masterbation, using contraceptives, etc. because sex is meant for procreation (making babies) so whenever 'seed' is spilled without the intent of procreating it is wrong

ya, thats wrong. being gay is actually frowned upon in the bible, in many places. i think that the job description asked in part for a straight male, and he didnt fit the description, so he shouldnt have gotten the job.

I dunno, but it seems gays are getting more and moreactive in todays community, and it scares me. The gay highschools are opening up all over the country, gay bishops are supposedly 'reaching out' to gay youth, there are getting to be more and more public places ofr gays. I think as of now its ok, but I certainly dont wanna see the day where 20-30 percent or more of the population is gay.

just because the bible said something doesnt mean its totally right. The bible was written thousands of years ago. It can't be taken the same way in todays culture.

people may think the bible cant be taken literally in todays culture, but the thing is, today's church is different from today's culture, and it follows the bible literally. therefore homosexuality is not condoned, and a gay bishop should not exist.

what is the bible?? the bible is a collection of stories. some parables stories jesus made up to make a point. and in all honesty god's own son jesus NEVER condemned anyone, what was his message?? love your neighbor, wow what a novel concept. and christianity stems from the new testament, which in fact in parts contradicts the old testament. and when you read the bible dont quote things out of context, many people do and that causes blatant misunderstandings of teachings.

first of all, im a catholic that is not at all conservitive, i think sooo many things in my religion should be changed, i think its great that the apiscapalean (cant spell it) church has a gay bishop, but now all the conservitives are screwing him over just because hes gay

in th ebible it is not frowned upon, it very clearly says that it isnt acceptable for christians. it says you can repent your sins, and be forgiven, but being openly gay is directly against what it says in the bible. how can a verse that says homosexuals, male prostitutes, ect. cannot enter the kingdom of heaven?

I'm pretty sure a gay highschool is exactly what it sounds. how's it any different from a french one though? haha umm back to the point.

The only actions that seperate a gay man and a straight man are gay sex, so if the bishop practices selibacy why should he be treated differently?

And yes I still don't get how you can take the bible literally when the new testement largely contradicts the old testement.

So a gay highschool is a highschool exclusively for gays?

1: I don't know if that would be legal to exclude heterosexuals - 'Catholic' schools are just schools that are recomended for Catholics, right? They would still accept Protestants I think.

2: How many highschool kids know that they are gay? A very small minority I'd imagine. The class sizes in 'gay schools' would be very small. I couldn't see a 'gay school' surviving if that is what it is.

'The only thing that seperates gays is gay sex' - no, homosexuality is sexual attraction to the same sex, not having sex itself. So the dude is still sexually attracted to men, so that is still against what the Bible says (supposedly).

I say leave the dude to do it. If people can't accept it then they should just find another church. What's the big deal?

I've heard stats like 2% of men are gay, I'm sure it wouldn't be restricted to gay people, but what straight person would actually want to go to a gay school.

yeah I said 'The only actions that seperate a gay man and a straight man' as of yet I haven't heard anything about the bible saying thinking about another man was wrong, maybe if he was married (in the covet they neighbour way) only that gay sex was wrong, in the spill the seed, so wait is lesbianism even seen as sin in the bible?

he's not pushing for people to be gay, he just happens to be. Its not like you wake up and say 'hey, i think ill start liking boys', you either are or your not. he just wants to teach what he belives in. i dont think he's the problem, i think homophobes are the problem.

Ok, yes those are the only actions that seperate it. But you can see where the people are coming from when they're complaining about him - he wanting to teach them about the Bible, while at the same time going against it by believing that homosexuality is fine. People will see him as a hypocrite.

'Non-practicing gay'? As I said before, homosexuality is the attraction to the same sex, so he is gay, no two ways about it. Sex has nothign to do with it. He's going against the Bible, which is what all the fuss is about.

I think what this, and a large portion of every religious debate boils down to is the interpretatoin of the readings, which I thought is what seperated the churches... but well I don't really know.

Most priests are allowed to be married etc, it's only maybe catholics that can't.. dunno exactly. But Freezy, even though being lutheran and all, we accept all people blah blah, it's ok that this priest is gay then. It's not that he is really flaunting it cause as I see it, you see a person and expect them to be straight, not expect everyone to be gay... so it sounds to me like he is just making a statement that he isnt what people expected. And just cause he is making it a known fact doesn't mean he doesn't repent for it. Everyone can follow God if they want to, everyone sins, and I think gays don't have the choice of their sexuality, he prolly repents for it, but can't do anything about it. I think it's cool that he even persued that career, being gay and all, the majority is rejected and not accepted. Props to the priest.

Yeah I agree, I think that people need to take their knowledge of the past and apply it to new situations, not just live by it. If I were to believe in Christianity I would think the bible to be morally true.

I think it's great NH has a gay bishop. besides, he's probably more into men than little boys. and 666, I think if you're christian and dont belive the bible was written by God you're probably a little fucked. Sure, some of the stories are queer, but that doesnt mean they werent written by God. why wouldnt you think it was written by God?
