i know how to bend rubber grips, just heat and pull, but i was wondering how to remove the grips on plastic-gripped poles. plastic does not expand in the way rubber does.

Word, soak in very hot water for a few minutes and give'r.
Have a buddy pull hard on the other end of the pole and you pull on the grip, just be sure you have a soft spot to land, because when it goes, you might suddenly be flying backwards.

plastic and rubber grips come off the same way.
1. put the ski pole in a vice
2. take a wrench, put the mouth of the wrench around the pole shaft and wedge it against the grip
3. hold the wrench tightly against the grip with one hand, and hit the wrench with a hammer, forcing the grip off.

Dip them in warm water then wrap the top of the poles in a rag or an old t shirt put them in the vice pull the slack up and tighten the vice on the shirt and the pole under it, unless you have a fucked up vice then you should be able to pull back and forth and the handle should just pop off on the vice then just take the good ol' hack saw. That's how I did mine.
