It's already destroyed 50+ homes and will no doubt take more. Out my N.Shore window I can see the 200' flames when they flare up and the tower of smoke looks like an atomic bomb. Good luck to all those down there. I know a lot of people are packing up and fearing the worst.
:( so sad. i guess 500+ acres burned already
i hope nobody gets caught up in it. a family friend just had to evacuate and the houses around hers are apparently burnt now. my mom works at the hospital and i guess there is talk that it might get evacuated. not sure how true that is though.
180-225 structures/homes burned now as of this morning! almost 800 firefighters are working on it now. this is so sad. so many people have lost their homes
Its really only a matter of time until the whole west and north shore area burns. The west side is so thick with forest that uninhabited and so over grown from not have a forest fire in so long. This year will be a terrible year for fires in California, we usually don't get fires like this until august or September. So dry here this year.
ya know i just realized that when the fire stops and all after it rains the clarity of the lake wont be as good will it? with all the ash and all it will probly be kind of nasty.
yeah, but ash is not really the problem. The problem will be silt that washes off the hill sides due to there being no vegetation. It stays suspended in the run off going into the lake and goes into the lake. This is most of what the "keep lake tahoe blue" is about.
that shit sucks but those people should have realized that they were living in houses that are placed in an area that is very suceptible to wild fires, which are natural and in now way a bad thing, besides the fact that they burn peoples houses that really shouldnt have been there in the first place.
lots of people are losing their homes. As someone who has had their home threathened by forest fires before, I cannot even imagine actually losing my house. There are a couple guys on TGR that are pretty close to losing their homes it sounds like, hopefully the fire crews can get it under control. Sounds like the conditions are just horrible there.
Someone from TGR also posted that the local paper is reporting that the South Lake HS may have caught fire.....
fucking mess.
And why did it start.....some douche bag and a cigarette. How fucking hard is it to just put it out? He's already been arrest. The forests around the US are in such bad shape that it is just too easy for shit like this to happen.
Update: Fires are natural occurances. If you dont let fires naturally clean out an area of old dead things, it will just be inevitable that the shit will burn easily. It doesnt take much to start a fire in really dry shit.
Im sorry that they lost their house, but next time dont build your house in the middle of a fucking forest. Problem solved.
this is the worst thing to ever happen to my community. tahoe is such a small community and this is the biggest disaster we've seen. it's amazing what is happening. pray for those fighting the fire and those who have lost their homes and belongings.
how did you hear that? i haven't heard any of that...
my best friend lost everything. her car was stolen 3 weeks ago (didn't have full coverage, lost that).... lost her home yesterday and everything in it. she now owns her raley's work clothing :(
and yeah the high school is burning down right now
yeah, it often amazes me how compassionate people on NS are. I feel
horrible for everyone there. I had tons of respect for every
firefighter ever. Those conditions are extremely dangerous and they do
everything they can to save peoples homes.....
that was the word from some of the TGR guys who have or are close to losing their homes. I am not 100% sure, but from what those guys have been saying, that seems to be the cause.
sorry about your friend and everyone else who is being affected. This shit sucks.
yeah i can't even tell you how many people are out of their homes now. 225 is the estimation right now (including rental homes though).. the air is clearing up, as is the ash falling so hopefully its getting better.
it's all pretty crazy, but all very nessisary for the ecosystems of the area. It sucks to have a house there, but it's the same with those who live in tornado ally... mother nature is going to pwon you
heh. I live in Montana. We have forest fires every year. Sometimes people lose their homes but only a few each summer. Often times, the air is filled with smoke alot of the summer. Everyone that lives in the woods knows that their house could be burned down someday. Just because this one guy started it with a cigarette this year, how do you know it just wouldnt have burned down a year from now from lightning if the conditions are that bad? Honestly, if this whole fire was started by a cigarette, it was just a matter of time before it went up in flames.
that fucking sucks and for all the people that have said o its there fault fuck you. tahoe is so beautiful and has such great skiing. i would love to have a house there even with the risk of fire. if you have been there you would no that.
usually large fires will put them selves out with a shift in wind direction and natural obstacles. The wind will change and blow back in the direction it already burned and have nothing to burn. That and man made attempts with planes.
