tanner isn't the best

there are so many skiers better than him. the only reason he wins compitions is because of his name. i'm not saying that he sucks, i'm just saying there are better people

I think the important thing to note is Tanner himself doesn't even consider himself the best skier, I believe he said in an interview as of late that he has a long way to go and looks up to many a skier even if they are his same age. I'm sure tanner probably agrees with being over hyped, but i'm sure his accountant and agent wouldn't. I think he is pretty honest fellow after all he openly admits to drinking and smoking and loving it and chasing hot girls when alot of notables are claiming to be, holier than thou, only to be found out to be lairs and they look like assholes.

he is a good guy thats true to skiing. its not his fault how people rate him. he goes out and skis just like the rest of us and lets others be the judge but he doesnt care. and what i like like to she is how he went to armada, which show he doesnt care about the money (leaving rossi), or so i think

no, tanner is the best. he places top 3 in almost every comp. hes very consistent. theyre are others who place fairly consistantly, like pep, candide and olsson, but tanner is the best (and im not being biased, because i dont really like him that much, but u know hes the best).

at freestyle hall, thovex, cr and olson are all at a very high level, all with good but differnt style, and all have different strong points.... tanners fit him better than the others do for comps... candide and cr are way better at throwing HUGE tricks then hall, but that does nothing for comps where hall is way better at jibbing then both of them. and i think olson has such a smoothness in the air which goes beyond style.

This is a pointless thread done over a hundred times.



Whether you like Tanner Hall or not, he is a professional athlete - and that alone deserves respect. He worked to get where he is at and he continues to work to progress skiing to a new level.

There are better skiers, and like said before - even Tanner will be the first to admit that.
He can't rip up the back country like Seth Morrison, and other skiers are better than Tanner in certain areas.

But like it or not, he is the best slopestyle competitor out there. He is consistant and has the competive mindset that keeps placing him on the top. His runs are solid. Some people will throw a better looking trick in a competition, but it's the OVERALL score that matters. CONSISTANCY.

Your recognition does play a part, however, the judges as well as everyone else would like to see an up and comer take the podium as much as we do.

i agree that he is the most consistent, but that dosn't make him the best. and i have seen him ski, and i have talked to him, he's rad. but i still think that he doesn't deserve some (and i stress the word 'some') of the finishes he gets. i'm not blaming him, i'm just saying that i don't think its appropriate

i've seen tanner do shit on skis that people wouldn't even think of. the kid is one of the most naturally gifted atheletes in our sport, combined with his weed smoking, he basically can't be stopped. i hate how people will take one tiny aspect and say how there is someone better. you take the fucking sport as a whole and you will find that tanner is on top, no questions asked. he's unbelievable and everyone else in our sport respects and recognizes him as the best. thats just the way it is

The guys who mentioned consistency got it right on - that's what seperates him from a lot of other guys. Yes, he is not 'the best skier' in that he doesn't throw the hardest stuff or have the best style, but he knows what to throw to impress the judges. In my mind he is the one skier who combines style, difficulty and variety perfectly.

it happens in every sport where there is someone who is the best that people start to get bored of one guy winning everything. at least recently there have been other guys to beat tanner, just shows that he isnt the only one willing to work his ass off

i think the thing about tanner is that he's very marketable and since his name is out there through media coverage and sponsors he doesn't really need to ski well. i'll agree he is a fuckin sick skier but if he wasn't marketable no one would probably know too much about him regardless of his competition results.

Damnit this is simple. He is not the best. he is one of the best. No one is the best for the simple fact that everything is so subjective and there are so many areas to be good at. Who is to say that someone who is good at everything (hall) is better than seth who will rape him at his element. Also, style is so important right? and we agree style is subjectif so that brings it down too cuz it depends what you like.

a lot of people say like.. oh yah hes not the best even though he thinks that.. but you gotta look at what hes done for the sport as a whole, its crazy... hes super consistent too, and i think thats why he wins a lot of comps... but he doesnt even say hes the best, he respects everyone for the diffrent styles they have... so give props

see, here's where i disagree with what's being said...i think tanner probably is the best...that kid works so hard at it, and he has alot of commitment, i mean..he's been doin this for so long, even before there was really anything in it for him...either way, i have more respect for that kid than for anyone i've ever met.
