Snowboarding VS SKiing...... Rails

I remember Doug talkin in an interview about where skiing is going on rails. Whether it was going towards a agressive skating aproach or a snowboard approach. I believe that the end result was basically whatever makes the skiers happy and do wut feels good. Anyway with refernce to snow boarding Doug said that he wanted to see some more presses and that cause the way skis are designed that skiers wont be able to press like a board because of the leverage boarders have. I can agree.

To the point here about wut skeirs can do and borders can do on snow is alost identical in the air, except we can cross skies and i havn't seen a boarder to a 1440 yet i dont think (could be wrong). But boarders have rail presses and we have basically switch ups i guess.

But i do not believe tht boarders can PRETZLE. well maybe a little, for example rotating the lower body, but not really good. I just think that skiers can do mad pretzles like Matt Walkers 450 on 450 off pretzle (i think) and Tom's in his Superunknown Edit. 

That is another thing we have on boarders in my opinion

anyways skiing is still the shit anyway

we go alot bigger on the rails, i think. their presses are sick, but pretzels and 360 sw ups are just dope. you can't beat that

yeah. agree. we all know that skiing is the shit anyways. right now i cant even think of anything that snowboarding has on skiing, but im tired and its early, ill post later.

Pretzels were done on snowboards about a year or two before they started popping up on skis. They are a bit more difficult on a board and look a bit more awkward though. I have never seen a 450 to 450 pretzel on a snowboard but you don't see 450 - 450's on snowboards period.

Some of the presses on boxes on a snowboard are completely ridic. MFM style.

snowboarders will always be better at rails than skiing. also im pretty sure snowboarding invented preztels and there not that uncommon. Frontboard preztel is a pretty basic trick.

Snowboarding doesn’t have shit on skiing? Is that a joke? How do you even measure that? It’s all relative to how you view something so you can’t say one is better then the other.

Snowboarders don’t give a fuck about huckin doubles, 7,938 switchups on a flat rail, 1440's, or 630's on. You skiers need to realize that of course to YOU skiing is better, but its all relative... stop trying to say we are better then them cause fuck its annoying as shit.

I think on average skiers are better than boarders at rails.  I know thats a bold statement, but at my local hill almost every kid can 270 out at the least.  I don't see the majority of boarders even try boardslides, I see 5050s all day. we can do tech rails easier.  Like S rails, rediculous kinks, all that good stuff.  We obviously have an edge when it comes to spins on and off.  Thats not even debatable, but boarders have an edge for presses.  I've seen some mindblowing fs nose to bs tail presses.  At the same time i've seen a tail switch up nose from skiers. More kids are trying them and we're gettin better .  Its just progression

 in my opinion snowboarding is going in a better direction then skiing is. they are going to more of style where skiing is just going big . but i predict just like skiing always does its going to follow snowboarding and we are going to go style.

BY THE WAY this thread was just saying that at skiers can pretzle better then boarders and boarders can press better. THATS ALL

Have you ever seen snowboarding or skiing?
I learned how to pretzel from snowboarders, I think its a stupid name, but when you see a snowboarder do one, you get it. They can also switch up, just watch the trailer for apples and ranges. Spinning is spinning, and crossing skis is kinda neet. I like the fun part though, kudos on that one.
 forget about the competition btw us and them, its all us. downhill style riding is what I do, you guys should too.

spinning on a board is so much harder than on skis. its much more unnantural and you cant move your feet. thats y i think that skiiers go bigger than boarders on spinning diasters and stuff, its a lot simpler to learn to spin. also boarders are facing sideways and skiiers face like standing or walking, again, much more nattural

skiers are going bigger and bigger then snowboaders cause they can go bigger, its just easier to get up a shit ton of speed on skis

and its easier to steeze the balls off of a spin on a board cause they cant fail there legs

both sports are way sick and people need to feed off of other sports not compete with them

i mean i watch snowboard movies and get ideas about stuff on my skis from what they are doing on thier snowboards

uhhhhhh?i dont even know where to start on this one...First off, snowboarders can do wayyyyy more on rails then skiers can. how many different grinds can we do on an urban setup down rail. skier slide thingy, lipslide, nose press, tail press. thats about it. snowboarders can do front boardslide, back board, front lipslide, back lip, five-o, nose press, tail press, micheal jackson, tail slide, nose slide and the list goes on...pretzels were invented by snowboarders, face it. most tricks on skis originated from snowboarding. snowboarders cannot do 450 pretzels because they cannot grip the rail and stop the motion like you can on skis. there are sooo many more grinds on snowboards then skis that i dont even see how its possible to argue that rails are more tech on skis. yes we can do switchups and pretzels but snowboarders can do them too! do not think that skiers are the only ones that do switchups...

Yeh i was going to say.. snowboarders can definitely pretzel and have been for awhile now.


But, i do think that skiers can get a lot more technical on rails from what I've seen. Although, I might not be able to tell what is really technical or not w/ snowboarders. I have a good idea, but not like I do in skiing.

on a snowboard you cannot be as tech as skiiers when it comes to spiining on rails. 270 on, pretzel sw up, 270 off for example... that is pretty tech if you watch a skiier do that, but a snowboarder could never pull somethihng like this, they can only press and do small spins in one direction, with an occasional pretzel off. they can go more for style with rails than tech if you ask me

i think skiers go bigger and their tricks are harder but snowboarding just has way more variation and options of things to do on rails.

rolelrblade grinds ruin skiing, keep rollerblading as far away from skiing as possible. doing snowboard tricks on skis are soo fun, like hurricane tap to switch n nosepress tail tap to switch, try um there fun

Look at the recent X Games slope style to see how the skiiers were doing it better than the boarders. Candide did a 360 switch up disaster on the A frame and a switch 630 onto the flat down box. The best I saw on the boards was a 270 lipslide onto the urban.

Where do you live, is every snowboarder a gaper or do you just hang out in the mini park all day?

I hate when people say one is better then the other, its two different things. two of my favrite people to ride with are snowboarders, they kill it.  For them its easyer to cork and to press, for us its way easyer to spin on to rails and switch up and stuff.

snowboarders can get alot more tech on rails, i swear its just more natural for them to slide the way they do facing either forward or backwards usually so its easier.  They can do like nosepress to tail bonk easily for example where for a skier it would be hard and wouldnt look as steezy.

So basically what im saying is that snowboarders have it easier when doing more tech tricks in my opinion, skiers will get there eventually but I think we need to start doing more rollerblade type grinds   For example something i did by accident, 270 on one footer (dont know the rollerblade term for it).  We just need to get more tech since nosepresses and tailpresses on skis are really hard for one, they dont look as good as boarders and its hard to do crazy spins out of them.
