"This is the largest milestone in Newschoolers.com’s history and we could not be more excited. We have just signed an aquistion deal, with Studio411 a division of Sportnet"
really? the word "aquisition" means a purchase. a "partnership" where someone is aquired is a buy-out unless I am mistaken.
nothing wrong with the fellas gettin paid, but unless i also read the article incorrectly, it was sold. am sure that they can continue to run the site the way that they want.
"He told me that his company was very impressed by our site and you guys and interested in the acquisition of Newschoolers.com. I immediately brought the issue to Chris and Paul, and all three of us thought it was a pretty silly idea, and that we would never sell."
"NS Management, our management company that has been running the site since Harvey passed on the torch, will continue to run the site just as before. Everyone who makes Newschoolers.com what it is today will remain in place but we will be given an influx of resources like we have never imagined."
Im sure majority ownership is still with the same guys, so it would be a very small portion acquired if that was the case
brah, nobody who works in private equity or aquisition throws money at a company unless they can have a controlling interest. without controlling interest they can't shape the company a cash cow to get a solid return on their investment.
aaaah, kids are so nieve and idealistic....its adorable.
haha cash cow..nice year 10 business studies there.
i'm doubting NS mgt would have sold a large portion for the prime reason of losing complete control of the company.
Of course there will be a tradeoff between $$$ and control, but we aren't talking about a complete buyout here. From how I interpret it, amongst other things there will be SIGNIFICANT profile given to these companies like studio411 along with input on the site but it will continue to run similar to as it does now.
Well i hope so anyway.
The site is worth a good chunk, the ad revenue potential alone is ridiculous. (over 300 people who constantly browse the site for houers on end)
I'd sell adspace to google and keep the site for myself. As it stands now (without many ads) it's not a very profitable model and I can't see anyone paying too much for it besides for consumer influence and media distribution.
NS is going to get a lot better, have streaming video and what not, that is all I really care about, thats all that matters, the site is going to get better. You dont pay to use the site, so money isnt an issue.
