Replying to Computer RAM Questions

I know a tiny bit more about the average joe about computers, but that isn't much at all.  I just bought two 512 ram cards for my piece of shit computer, and I am sure that they will work because there is a site for idiots that tells you what you need. 

I am unsure about a few things, and I want to just know some stuff so...

I have heard you need to be grounded with a wriststrap when actually inserting the cards, I don't have one so what should I do?

How much better will it be upgrading from 248mb to over a gig?

Do you have any tips on how to physically install the ram?

What other upgrades should I get, if any, here are my stats,
Intel (R) Celeron (R)
2.70 Mhz
248 mb of ram

I know there is a place on my computer where I can get more specifics on my pc, how do you do that so I can duisplay what I have.


I hope that wasn't too confusing and I hope someone has some advice.
