Replying to Southern/Northern Hemisphere seasons

OK, I know when it's the warm season north it's the cold season in the south hemisphere. But I always here people say it's winter here right now, when it's summer in the northern hemisphere. Is it still called summer though? Why do people say that, why don't they say it's our cold season right now, or why doesn't the northern hemisphere say it's our winter right now(during summer). Blah, I don't know what I'm saying anymore.
