i was driving on I-87 in NY in traffic at about 80mph, and there is a motorcycle next to me in the left lane. he is not going rediculously fast but passes me slowly. he creeps upo next the car infront of me going the same speed keeping distance from everything. The car in front of me puts its blinker on and goes to turn into the left lane right where the motorcycle is. I honked my horn and the car in front of me finally saw the motorcycle and stopped its lane change. after the moto passed the car changed lanes and everthing was fine.
I ride motorcycles, and a lot of people think that they are really dangerous. I consider my self a decent rider, my dad used to race and taught me a bunch, but this goes to show that the most dangerous part of motorcycles are the other cars on the road. if no one reads this, so be it, but just be careful and watch out for the two wheelers.

You could have or you did? Cause from what I read it looked like you did. I was getting ready for the part where the car hits him.

my brother had pretty much the same thing happen to him, except he looked at the driver of the car, and the driver looked at him when he did it, and forced my brother into a divider... he could of fucking died, but thankfully only had minor scratches, but totaled his bike....
some people are just huge douche bags too, riding a bike is just dangerous, especially in the US, because honestly, the US has some of the worst drivers i have ever seen.

word. some people are so careless when it comes to driving. I seriously think that there should be mandatory checks at the DMV like every 10 years for a license renewal where you have to take a road test again because time and time again so many prove to me while they are on the road they are clueless on how to drive...

That's awesome. I bet it feels great saving someone's life, the closest I've come is saving my friend's longboard from getting run over, and it was pretty exhilarating.

man i agree 100%. i ride my bike pretty fast through the city, no cars really see you.
i speed pretty bad sometimes, not rip in and out of lanes but pretty fast. when you pass someone fast like that, and sneak up on them give them a little warning. just toot your horn that split second to let them know your there. communication between cars is key. you need to be able to see cars and they need to see you
anyways, nice job man. Im pretty damn jealous you have a motorcycle.

Yea, first rule of the road for a bike is 'Everybody on the road is trying to kill you,' and that mentallity has saved my ass a few times. I was on the highway last year and a tractor trailor cut into my lane, but because I assumed he was out there to kill me, I was able to hit the shoulder and not die.

I don't know about most of you guys, but to me it seems like whenever there is someone on a bike, they think they own the road. Going way too fast in general, unsafe lane changes, and riding inbetween cars in stop an go traffic. It's like they are saying "please kill me because I can do stuff that your car can't and I do it so that you won't be able to see me when you do kill me"

it was moving traffic. not like stop and go. just rush hr. people have said to me like "went like 13 on my bike the other day man!!" who cares. 130 doesn't feel that much different than 90 or 100. instead of going straight and doin wheelies, which are fun, get off at an exit and bomb through some back country roads. just or more fun than goin really fast, and it could save your ass one day if you can actually lean your bike over and turn. in no way am i tootin my own horn, just yesterday was an eye opener.

i think he's saying he might have saved someones life. like the person could have died by getting hit or not. he's saying that so he doesn't sound like a self righteous prick

yeah the other cars are reallly dangerous to motorcylces but the guy was probably doing 85 or something in traffic on a motorcycle he should use some common sense

it seems that some people are out to get the people on motorcycles. i dont ride but my dad does and he has been forced off the road many times by people on purpose. the guy above who said the first rule of motorcycle rididng is "Everybody is out to kill you," is completely right. if u stick to that mentality then you can make it usually. knock on wood.

he probably would have realized, the motorcyclist or the other guy would have seen each other out of their proefrial vision etc.
I thought this was gonna be a heartfelt story about how you made the wrong decision and someone died as a result. glad that's not the case!

that happened to me a while ago except it was a car about to back over some crippled dude in a motorized wheelchair... it was pretty intense, just laying on my horn hoping the guy would stop.
and I didn't read the thread but if someone said "loud pipes save lives" and started talking about their fucking drag pipes on their harley, you should know that "loud pipers" actually get into more accidents, someone did a study.
I think this is because harley riders don't have loud pipes to "save lives"... it is more that they are obnoxious douchebags who can't drive, much like the average ricer. Make as much noise as you can from your shitty motor vehicle... a good sounding exhaust system is one thing, but the typical harley "loud pipes" are about equivalent to those giant folgers can mufflers you see on the cars that bounce off the limiter at lights trying to get you to race them.
fyi drag pipes actually reduce performance in low revs (hence their name "drag pipes"... they are meant for drag racing).

Driving in the States might be crazy, but has anyone driven in SE Asia? It's the sketchiest thing ever. Locals there will seriously have dad driving, mom sitting sideways behind him balancing a baby on her head, while grandma's in the back with like 2 chickens and three more kids. It's serious skill.
The only good thing about driving in SE Asia is laughing over the tickets you get. My fave was in Cambodia for "having a blue bike." Good thing it only cost 2 sodas to get out of it...
