America: Freedom to Fascism is a compelling and troubling account of how the wealth of our nation was silently passed from its citizens to a handful of powerful bankers in 1913. That's the year the Federal Reserve Act and the 16th Amendment were introduced, giving a privately held corporation the means to control our finances while ensuring its interest payments through the strong arms of the newly-formed Internal Revenue Service. Ever since then, Russo suggests, Americans have been gradually conditioned to accept fewer freedoms and a lower standard of living... all the while considering debt and servitude as distinctly American values.

Russo's first and most cogent point is simple: Americans are not required to pay a federal income tax. That's a bold statement to make, as few people believe that such a fraud could be perpetrated for so long. My father, himself an accountant, insists that the income tax is a very real thing. Russo takes that same belief to IRS employees and simply asks them to cite where it says an unapportioned income tax is required of us all. Guess what? They can't. In a telling segment Sheldon Cohen, former commissioner of the IRS, goes so far as to reject Supreme Court rulings and the Constitution as benchmarks over what is legal with regards to taxation. Russo also interviews members of the tax honesty movement as well as disenfranchised IRS agents who agree that no law on the books conjures up a requirement to send the government part of one's hard-earned paycheck. Russo then showcases court cases where those accused of tax evasion have won precisely because the prosecution cannot provide evidence of a legal federal income tax law.

It's shocking to have it hammered into your head over and over that you've thrown your money away for nothing, but repetition is good; it helps knock loose the deeply entrenched belief that we owe a portion of our livelihood to our government.

Oh god.. A tax evader...
And these banks of the 1913's were formed to support the DEFICIT the US created for WWI, and WWII later. If these banks hadn't existed, then capitalism couldn't have existed, because money wouldn't have been able to be spent on credit, so the US wouldn't have been able to support its war machine, and we would have had a MUCH more intense depression.
What do you think caused the collapse of the Soviet Union? Also, president Theodore Roosevelt proved that the trusts were not invincible, and he increased restrictions to squeeze the wealth from the trusts. President Taft took it a step further proving that the trusts were completely vulnerable, by shutting them down during the progressive era.

I dont believe you actually watched the movie, if you had you would realize that the income tax is unconstitutional and that we as citizens are not required to pay it. Also you would realize that the federal reserve system is actually around to redistribute the wealth to powerful people. Its seriously not crazy people wake the fuck up and watch this fucking movie. I'm sure you can pry yourself away from reality tv for 2 fucking hours to watch something informative.

Thanks, I will check that out.  I like most of what I hear from Ron Paul.  I think I might change my voter registration to Republican so I can vote for him in the primaries.  I used to be for Kucinich, but I think that's a lost cause and a lot of his plans don't seem too realistic anyway.

Lol I know all about income tax, and if you want to blame the tax burden being shifted to the middle class on someone, blame the republican era, and especially the Reagan era. He shifted the tax burden from the rich to the middle class, even though it was doing this already after WWII. It's not so much because of the rich bankers as their corporations having their fingers in the politics of the US as well. Income tax isn't unconstitutional, because it's IN the Constitution, therefore it CAN'T be unconstitutional. (Technically). I'm not a supporter of the shrinking middle class which is due to the income tax, but I do believe it is a neccesary revenue gainer for the US. The burden should just be shifted back on the rich.

Dude, I've read 1984 and I know all about fascism and complete totalitatianism (The quote at the beginning was made by the writer of 1984), and I know that the US couldn't go in that direction, not in our lifetime, because there ARE checks and balanced against that, and the masses too.

There's a book/CD called "The Creature from Jekyll Island"...It talks about how they created the Federal Reserve.  Basically a bunch of super rich bankers met in secret and drafted all the plans.  Crazy shit.

If your biggest issue with America and freedom is income tax, you have a serious priority problem.

How about the fact that there's only one effective branch of government? Or that warrants are optional, or that people are dying because they cant afford to pay big pharma for their meds? It's not paying taxes thats wrong, it's how they're being used. Basically at this point it's a lost cause. Nothing short of a complete replacement of the entire government will effectively route corruption.

"Family Values" is based in quasi-Christian religious morality and is a socially obsolete principal.

More people voted the other day for the winning American Idol contestant than the winning US President. In order to have useful leadership you need useful people, and 60% of Americans are completely worthless, lazy, obnoxious, uneducated, and ignorant. New England should just break off from the union and let the 'red' states just legislate and pray themselves into oblivion.

i pretty much agree with you on everything but what you think of Ron Paul, he has a great chance of winning and i think his definition of family values differs from those of lets say, sean hannity or pat robertson. mainly though, he is the best candidate for his views on what our foreign policy should be. he is the ONLY candidate who would restore the constitution, kucinich is the closet but he is totally against guns. please just check out his site before you dismiss him because of his age and him being "pro-life"

Haha just seen the movie. Wool and eyes come to mind. That sucks. You guys get such a bad deal on unskilled wage as it is. Liberal governments are the way forward. Bring income tax into the open, make it constitutional but somehow create a transparent system where very high earners are taxed more and it can be seen going into welfare and infrastructure rather than military and oversees endeavours. Thats just my opinions though, im a socialist at heart.

In Singapore I wouldn't have had to pay for my own surgery and chemotherapy when I randomly got cancer. In Singapore kids dont go $200k in debt because they have leukemia and cant afford to pay $500 a month in health insurance. I think I could hold off weed if it meant living.

Can't say much for Africa though, heh.
I think they just want to be left alone.

as a specialist in political sciences, i will not disagree w/ benditto.

his point is not that the taxation system is what is causing a bureaucratic, elitist american government. his point simply drives deeper to the roots that have lead to our current situation of an ever-becoming, unconstitutional government.

his support of ron paul does not seem to be because he reflects or endorses all of his personal views on abortion or gay rights. simply he recongnizes his overall ideas for america, our economy, and our rights.

he is not trying to push us to change our points of views, but to accept other ones into our own critiques of american politics. we cannot be the change that our country needs if we are walking blindly into our choices.

If you took the time to investigate your TOTAL taxation vs total taxation in countries like singapore, finland, and most of scandanavia, you'd understand that you pay nearly as much as they do, only get little to nothing in return.

As I said, Americans don't care about actual issues. Bush won because hes a nascar fan and can't use big words. Kerry lost because the south saw him as a 'pansy' and a big talker. The same thing will happen in 08, whoever has the better PR campaign will win, as usual.

This film is a Ron Paul 2008 campaign video. Please take it with a pinch of salt. Ok the future liberties part at the end is fascinating and pretty scary, but the first hour is simply designed to get people interested in Ron Pauls policies of getting rid of income tax and getting tough on immigration.
If you look at his policies you will see he is one right wing motherf*cker who blatently wants to reduce liberties and welfare and increase federal control. Say no to the Republican party. The democrats are a lesser of two evils. Let me present a stand from the rest of the world that is pleading for America to get the republicans out of office.

I watched the whole video.  Russo's not saying the big problem is the income tax.  The big problem is the Federal Reserve. The thing is, all our income tax goes to pay interest on the debt to Federal Reseve, when we don't really need to be doing that.  Russo just goes on for a while about how income taxes are unconstitutional and there's no law that says you have to pay them.  Since there's no law, income taxes are being enforced by intimidation and big guns.  The IRS is illegally seizing people's property, etc., etc.--and that's the kind of thing that happens in a police state.
 
After that, he talks about all the other shit that's going on or is in the works that will be used to take away our freedoms. If I didn't pay attention to stuff like this, I would probably think the guy was on acid.  National ID cards, computer chips they want to implant in our arms, elections rigged by electronic voting machines.  I've done a lot of research and written reports about these things.  It's all very real, and it's all very scary.  

To the guy who was hating on Ron Paul's "family values," I hear you. "Family values" is just a phrase politicians throw around to appeal to a large group of people.  Unfortunately, for a lot of people in America, politics is limited to two issues: abortion and gun control.  Gun control is important because the harder it is for us to get guns, the easier it is to take away our rights.  If they make guns illegal, criminals will be the only ones who have them, and that would be bad.  Abortion, on the other hand...we've had a lot of Republicans in office and none of them have overturned Roe vs. Wade.  I consider myself pro choice, but I don't really care that much whether a politician is for or against making abortion illegal, because (1) it's probably not going to change, (2) I'm wouldn't have an abortion either way and (3) other issues are a lot more important.  I'm actually glad Ron Paul is "pro life" because some of the other Republican presidential candidates aren't, but most Republicans are, so maybe this way everyone will vote for him.

Not really, it's just a documentary made by a guy who supports Ron Paul for 2008.  Russo has made other documentaries, too.  

If you look at his policies you will see he is one right wing motherf*cker who blatently wants to reduce liberties and welfare and increase federal control. 
Not true.  He voted against the Patriot Act.  He voted against the Iraq war.  He has never voted to restrict gun ownership.  He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.  He usually votes with the Democrats.  I haven't read much about his stance on welfare, but he wants less taxes and less federal control. Eliminating the income tax will eliminate a lot of government income, but I don't think he wants to cut spending in programs like welfare and education to enable that.  He just wants to reform the Federal Reserve so we can stop paying all that interest.

The democrats are a lesser of two evils.  Let me present a stand from the rest of the world that is pleading for America to get the republicans out of office.
Usually that is the case, I agree. I am a Democrat.  In this election, though, I'm not so sure.  Who do you support for the presidency?
