Three friends check into a motel for the night and the clerk tells them the bill is $30, payable in advance. So, they each pay the clerk $10 and go to their room. A few minutes later, the clerk realizes he has made an error and overcharged the trio by $5. He asks the bellhop to return $5 to the 3 friends who had just checked in. The bellhop sees this as an opportunity to make $2 as he reasons that the three friends would have a tough time dividing $5 evenly among them; so he decides to tell them that the clerk made a mistake of only $3, giving a dollar back to each of the friends. He pockets the leftover $2 and goes home for the day! Now, each of the three friends gets a dollar back, thus they each paid $9 for the room which is a total of $27 for the night. We know the bellhop pocketed $2 and adding that to the $27, you get $29, not $30 which was originally spent. Where did the other dollar go????

mauii, the math is way off. they payed $27 in total, the manager got $25 and the bell hop got $2.

the whole oint is for it to be confusing, but the math is entirely on. The mileading part is where it ask 'where did the extra dollar go' .. when in actuality, it should add up to 25, not 30 like most people would think.

no, they spent 27...manager got 25 and bell hop got 2, which is 25+2=27. you're just throwing the 3 in there, but they got the $3 back, which makes it that they only spent $9 each, instead of $10.

Yeah, the wording is intended to confuse people. By telling them that the bellboy kept $2, you're suggesting that those $2 are thir change, when in fact the 3 x $1 is the change. It add up properly.

this guy ran out of gas so he was pushing his car. He stoped on a hotel and went in. the od thing is there was no one in side the hotel.. it was compleatly empty and hollow, since he could not find anone he went back out side. There once was a king and a princess in a distant land, there was also an evil magician in that land. It was time for the princess to marry so the king had a contest to see who was good enough to marry his daughter. He took everyone in the village and arm wrestled all of them. The king was very strong so he beat everyone until the evil magician. The evil magician had a knife under the table and stabbed the king in the knee, and beat the king in the arm wrestle. So, rules are rules are the evil magician gets to marry the princess. The princess spies on him and finds out that he has plans to kill the king, and take over the whole 'land'. So the wedding day comes, and the aisle is made of black and white pebbles. When theyre at the alter, the princess takes out a bag and says, 'put one black pebble and one white pebble in here, if i pull out the black one, you can marry me, if i pull the white one out, you have to leave this land forever' Naturally the evil magician bends down and puts 2 black pebbles in the bag, but all the audience thinks that theres a white one and a black one, only the princess knows that theres 2 black ones. How does she get out of this with everything ending happily?

heres one i have postd before in the several riddle threads before this one. So if you know the answer dont post it right away.

a man dies and comes to a fork in the road one way lead to heaven and one to hell. in front of the paths are two brothers. one brother who always lies stands before the road to hell and one brother who always tells the truth stands before the road to heaven. with one question the man must decide which path is to heaven. what is this one question?

you dont know who is telling the truth, and they both would say their roads lead to heaven, as for the bathroom there could be a bathroom down either one or both of the roads the question is too open ended

Pebbles one: does she draw one out and hide it in her hand, then show that the one she didn't draw was black, so the one she did draw must (well, should) be white?

And for the heaven/hell one: you say 'one question', but do you mean one question to one person, or could he ask one question and get an answer from each guy?

^ For that to work, you'd have to assume that the guy knows they are brothers and that the road to heaven is guarded by the one who tells the truth.

bristolrider is correct they know they are brothers because it is info given on te riddle and it was said that the one who tells the truth is before the heaven road and vice versa

Well in that case, he could just ask any random question. Eg. 'Is the sky blue?' or 'Does 1 + 1 = 2?', then takes the road of the guy who answers yes.
