i know there are probably only twelve people on here who even know what a fixed gear is, but i'm going to throw this out anyway... i need a cheap set of wheels to throw on my nishiki frame. i dont' really wanna drop two hundred dollars on a set from the bike shop so i'm trying to locate some used ones. there's really nothing good on ebay and there hasn't been for a while...
what's your budget? would you consider building up a wheelset? you could get some hubs from surly or iro http://www.irofixedgear.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=9 but i think once you build either of those up it'd prolly end up around the $200 mark (but it'd be better than what the shops sell for 200)
or... if you could find someone with a typical road wheelset for really cheap you can add one of these things http://www.bikemannetwork.com/biking/p/HU9020 ... price seems a bit high for what it is though, but i guess it's an option
i'll try to come up with something more helpful tmw though. i like this kind of stuff.
Is a fixed gear one gear where you always have to be pedalling and a singlespeed is one gear but you can coast? I know a lot about tri bikes, but not about these things.
heres a better pic of it taken by my friend jay before i met him on an ice cream social fixed gear ride. you can see my foot and my bag in the corner
and me reppin that shit hard
