does anyone know how to get noticed and get sponsered? How good do you have to be? I'm not very good but i've got a trampoline and i've been practicing on tht, and so im really stoked for 07\08 season. I'm hopefully getting a few tips from someone who is on the Ontarion Park an Pipe Team and im going to france for an exchange, i also want to go to Camp of Champions, or High North, or Momentum.
lol, ya but i htink it would be more fun if i wuz sponsered, and my home mountain is snow valley which is a crappy little hill near barrie ontario, so the comps arent the biggest but i guess its a start
Now this comment isn't directly stated to you, but i hate kids who are like "why do you want to get sponsored? who cares?" or something like that. What i don't get about these kids is why would you be a "soul skier" per say, when you have the capability to get free shit? Hell if a kid had skill like matt walker, why would they not film for a good chunk of the year to get free gear? Once again, wasn't completely directed to you. But kid, make a video, get some results, put together a resume and give'r.
well i might as well say it before some one else does......searchbar..... there are thousands of threads on this...but good try on spelling sponsored right..... you almost got em kiddo
also have a good attitude. The guys at Moment Skis got this letter telling them what shitty skiiers they had and that the company was basically running a junk show and he could tell them how it is and get them up and goin if they sponsored him. this fucking jackass is a perfect example of how NOT to approach a company. especially if their skiiers are better than yourself.
i completly agree evan thats twice in less then 10 minutes!
i didnt say dont ski to get sponsored i said dont ski JUST to get sponsored im pretty sure uve been skiing for a while and u probablly didnt start skiing just because u wanted to get sponsored u did it because a family member or friend or w/e invited you for a trip up to the mt and youve been addicted ever sence.
yaaa mean?
I think going into skiing and just thinking "i want to make a career out of it" is the wrong thing to do. Get those first sponsors, get free stuff, progress and if you have the skill then go for the big money/career shit. I think in my first post thats what i was trying to get through was have fun until you get to the point where you can make a career out of it
cause getting the travel money and what not gives you the chance to ski as a carrer and do it everyday. You shouldn't ski to get sponsored, but it's definatly alright to look for sponsors so you can ski
There are some who should really examine their skiing and perhaps reduce this endless desire to get sponsored. A one minded and/or one sided mentality approach isn't exactly the best means of gaining sponsorship; people need to understand the context of sponsorship rather than some notion of free gear or status. Perhaps I'm trying to be too theoretical, but there is far more to it. Realistically, or at least to me, people just need to ski and gain a better foundation both in skill and mentality before attempting the highly sought after sponsor pinnacle. You have more fun while you're at it and gain many rewards, and if you do, indeed, progress enough, then sponsorship could be a natural outcome. I just never understood forcing it.
Ok being sponsered isnt the only thing in snowboarding. I have some sponsers and i suck. The only reason im sponserd is because me and my friends are good for the level of riding at our mountain so we are marketable but it doesnt change anything just ride for yourself.
im on X-bladz but im afraid gabby and my other friends will get bad at me. so whenever im in competitions i wear sunglesses so nobody knows who I am. i got tons of free stuff and get money frequently so I can help my parents out because my dad just lost his job. Val isnt very nice to me so I ended up throwing a milkshake in his face..... "chocolate". my friends found out I wasnt shredding for the love of it and they got mad. I then had a montage of me going between working shredding working shredding. gabby was still mad at me tho so she challenged me to a race down the steepest hill in our area. Val took pebbles and threw them on the "inside corner" as he tipped me off saying "take the outside..." i took the outside gabby beefed and got pwned and I felt real bad. I didnt know what to do. thats when my dad told me I didnt need to worry about money no more and told me to skate for the love of it. There was this huuge comp at my local shred spot that i really wanted to do. the problem is... i didnt have a team to be on. so I then proceeded to apologise to gabby and my other friends. they accepted and we all aggreed to pwn team X-bladz in the comp. competition day came and I was amped. we all had our new shirts on that had little puppies and bubbles all over them. Val made fund of us but I laughed it off and told him that I was a soul shredder. we pwned the forst event. no competition. val and his crew put up a good fight but they wernt a match for us. then came my money event. halfpipe. i took my first run and got an 89. val took both his runs and got a 90 on both of them. I had one more run. it needed to be perfect. I was a little sad to see that my dad wast there to see mu upcoming run. just as i was about to drop, i saw him. i knew he just had a job interview so i was a little nervious. i looked at him and he smiled at me and gave a thumbs up. i was stoked! I dropped in. I had the run of my life. I stomped the poop out of it and claimed it mad hard. the judges gave me a 95 and the crowd went crazy. I was so amplified I nearly pooped my pants. one more event to go. the downhill. team x bladz and our team were tied for overall points because gabby kept beefing. so we chose who was going to raace. everybody said I should do it. I accepted. We rolled up to the starting line. Val stared me in the face and nodded his head with a funny looking smerk on his face. I looked back with my gameface on. next thing we knew the gun shot and we were off. Everything was going good until val got a little physical, he started punching me and ramming into me. so I finally rammed into him and he flew off the course. I stopped. shocked at what just happened. i looked down the hill watching as the crowd told me in slow motion "Go! Go! finish the race!" No, i wasnt gonna finnish the race. Im a nice kid, ill help val out. I went over to the are where val fell and saw him rolling on the ground moaning. i put my hand out and he took it. I helped him up and out of nowhere he pushes me over and laughed in my FACE! i was pissed. what a jerk. i then got up and pumped as hard as a could and got into "racertuck mode" i spotted a baller shortcut and took it. it ended up bringing me to the top of a huuuge drop off where i could see val up the hill is his aerodynamic race tuck as well. i jumped. STOMPED it! val nearly pooped his pants when he saw me. we were back, neck and neck. the race was anybodys. we came around the corner to the flat part where we had to pump and skate as fast as we could. we were both exhausted. nearing the finish. I had tunnel vision. I imagined my stupid actions of leaving my friends to be on team X-Bladz. what an idiot. I thought of my parents and my dads new job. It felt like i just drank 10 extreme mtn dews. I found the energy within me to get aheaad of val and win the race. the crowd went wild! val and team x bladz were pissed. me and my friends rejoiced happily. that week i learned a valueable lession. shred for the love of it. be a soul skiier. dont sell out on your frends to get free product and cool team X-bladz uniforms.
snowboarding is and always has been better than skiing when it comes to so many aspects. the only thing skiing has on snowboarding is being able to boost forty feet out. oooh! lame. snowboarding pipe still beats out skiing pipe.
evan heath, you should stop too.
although you've heard it before, you are one of the worst members on this website to date. your opinions are horrible and it's easy to tell you try way to hard to be cool and think the way you suppose the rest of ns thinks with everything you write. you should post less and think more. go to school or do something neat with your time.
Now now, that just your opinion. It seems pretty legit to me, maybe you read it wrong? I see no problem with my opinion. Trying hard to become sponsored is chill, you get free shit, who doesn't want free shit? And as for making a career, i bet only 10% of kids who get small sponsorships don't make a career out of skiing and getting money from it.
but on a more important note, you should ski because you want to, not to get sponsored, but if you decide that it is sponsorships that you are going for, then have fun with that. Getting sponsored is mostly who you know and what are can/ are willing to do for the company. Comps are good, good vid seg is key too.
I think getting noticed is really important. and I find a good way of doing this is going to demo days because then the reps can see you ski. And the best way is to atttach a flaming pair of ski socks to your ass pockets and ski through the demo area. with out a shirt on and a pair of fake boobs for good measure (getting spanserixed is alot easyer with a vagina and boobs even fake ones)
Adding on to this in a way...
What the other kid said was completely right. Ski for fun and if you are good enough to be sponsored, someone WILL notice. But being a soul skier is deffinately the best. Someday I hope to become a true soul skier.
have fun be sponsored..........its all up to you dude....if your at an event and you see someone who works with a company talk to him go skiing with her......dont try and get in her pants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!the first date if you know what i mean
sponsor house so gay haha i got spankerzoinked by watches and energy drinks with just pics but i guess it would look good on a resume
and yeah ski for fun and if your mega goot then you will get noticed and you will be able to make a career out of it.
also if you really want to get free stuff just start talking with your local reps and shops go in comps, be famous, film some shit
