The Grateful Dead is god's apology for leaving us trapped in this mortal world.

Throwing Stones, I love the message and the song. Mexicali Blues, it's a nice song to chill to about Mexico. Black Muddy River, such a sad powerful song. Dire Wolf, a pretty cool song as well. Sugar Magnolia is a fun song to listen or sing to as well. It really gets you moving. Touch of Grey is a great song that really cheers me up, it's an overall great song to listen to at any time. There's tons more too. I love the Grateful Dead. They really inspire me or cheer me up.

phil and friends (the dead's bassist's side project)played a series of shows in '98 or '99 with trey and page from phish. they played a mix of phish and dead songs. the tapes are sweet. phish has covered the grateful dead a number of times. however, the grateful dead proper never played with phish.
favorite dead songs:
eyes of the world
weather report suite
jack straw
bird song
brown eyed women
he's gone
the music never stopped
the list goes on and on...

I have to say the album Blues for Allah, which is pretty much a continuous meddle, is my favourite Grateful Dead ever.
Franklin's Tower is probably my favourite part. It makes you want to sit by a river and enjoy life.

wow, totally wrong on that story, but it's cool.
The Pizza Tapes (as stated above, with Grisman and Rice) was a two-night recording that was left (cassette) on the counter and when they ordered pizza, the pizza delivery boy stole the tape, thus giving it it's name... or so the legend has it.

i LOVE early 70's dead- a much jazzier sound than later in their career. also, i like the sparseness of just one drummer.
