Project ""FROG POND"" *pics inside*

Not sure why I am posting this here, but figured why not, it is NS after all.
About a week or so ago we found out that, on my parents property, we have a 200'x150' extension on the land. While it really isn't all that big, given it sits in the thick woods on the corner of our property, what it lacks in size it more then makes up for in sheer awesomeness.
Hidden behind rows of 50-60 year old rhododendrons and a few tall deciduous trees, we found a very old frog/garden pond. It has been grossly overgrown, looks as if no one has touched it for about 15-20 years. However it has retained water, and being as such, it has developed into a self sustaining micro-eco system.
Here is a lame pano of it I whipped up in PS a moment ago.
It needs a ton of work done to it, and that is what I have committed myself to over the next two weeks. I will be updating this page as often as I can, for those who are interested as well as giving myself something to push me to finish this project.
Here is another picture of what it looked like before I started removing anything. You can't really see how overgrown it is because of the Hemlock in the right of the pic, but you can see above in the pano.
That fence goes all the way around and is buried about a foot into the ground, and two feet for the pegs, not to big an issue, but the pegs are all rotted out in the ground so I have to rig it all up.
The bittersweet has taken over the tree and bushes, so I have to remove ALL of it.
Then I get to prune, the fun part.
I am going to climb up tomorrow and get an topographical shot that I can put into photoshop and use to lay out how it will look when done.
Will try and update this daily.

Oh shit I forgot to add the last part to my post...
Sick job man I wish I had as much dedication as you... I'm trying to clear out a lot beside my house to make room for a sick jib lane but I'm so bloody lazy.

Ok so I was out working for the past few hours, not really doing all to much.
I had to stop and come in to dl the photos and video I just got though. Will post them shortly, hope they came out ok. Unfortunitly the only digi I have is a Canon s500, so the zoom sucks.

ok so no one seems to be able to fix the blog I had set up and now it has been de-activated. Even Doug is baffled. So I guess it will all just be posted here for the time being.

Update for Day 3 of the project. I forgot to take a pano of the work done, so I will do that tomorrow morning.
However here are some fun shots.
This is the ground cover I have to work with currently, I want to rake it all up, but at the same time, there is a network of Ivy offshoots which are about 40-50 years old and have started to climb up trees that are well over 40' away from the main root system. So I think I am going to leave it the way it is and just put down some top soil, and moss in places. Still unsure.
Here is one of the more unique Rhododendron Blooms I have seen in a while. Not sure why, but I thought it was pretty cool so I took a pic.
Here is an example of how knotted up bittersweet can get when it is left to it's own devices. This knot is easily 6+ years old, thankfully it was on the fence section I removed. Some of the others where in the thickest parts of the Rhododendron bushes, those where a PAIN IN THE ASS to remove without harming the Rhody.
This shit was also fun to remove, Poison Ivy, YAY!
This was a fun side project for the day. This Rhody had been resting on a debris covered rock for so long that it developed a root system mid branch, however it had barely anything to dig it's roots into, so I helped.
First was lifting it off the rock (should have moistened it as I did to prevent root damage, but I forgot). Then I put some rotten wood, which the forest has plenty of, underneath the current root system (this gives the roots something moist and study they can dig into for grip). Then I piled tons of moist soil under the roots and ontop and soaked till the soil started to wash off from over-saturation.
Final two now; first one, me chilling at the ponds side watching a frog and savoring the last of my cubans.
Second, my reward snack I made when I got back ;: )
Yay for day 3.
Tomorrow I plan to make the most progress. Will post updates tomorrow night. Hope people are enjoying this. I am still trying to blogify this.

your camera must suck if it takes 250 to get one in focus, what are you using?

powershot s500 haha. So yeh it kinda does suck. It takes sick pics, just macro stuff is daum near impossible. It only offers autofocus, which is the anti christ for macro-photography.

Those are definately the same ones I use, haha. Knew they looked familiar...
I've gone through a few pairs though :S
Building decks, docks, isntalling windows, and painting has done a few of em in. haha. Moving garden bricks was the worst for them though.

yo sorry all, been working on the ski game.
I will post an update in the next few days.
Only thing for now is the mosquitoes are pwning me, and the water level of the pond dropped about 3 inches overnight, so I need to figure that one out.

Haha. All I did for mine was cover a trail in stone. This would be a cool eagle project if it wasn't for his personal gain.

Yo ok sorry I have been shitty about the updates, been working on this ski game thing and getting over the gnar gnar poison ivy I had.
Brief update minus pics.
I have planted a sequoia amongst a few other things, and drew up a general layout of the garden/pond. I am currently working to get it spruced up in photoshop, however my skills in that program have gone down hill given I have not used it for like 3-5 years and it has changed a decent amount.
I will post once I have it ready though. I will post what it looks like now, and what I plan to do with it over the next ten years.
I have also gotten the blog back online and will get that going and see if I can't get it front paged :: )
Thanks for the props and kind comments, appreciate peoples interest in this.

I love landscaping, if i'd have a pond like you, I'd defenetly do something alike. Keep it up, but don't forget after you're done with it you'll have to maintain it! Oh, and sequoias are sick.
