The best show on TV right now is Boston Legal, followed closely by House, but 24 is, despite its shallowness, right up there. In order to really have a chance at being the best show you need great performances, otherwise it's just mindless distraction: a Hugh Laurie or James Spader or Edward James Olmos or Sam Waterston or even James Woods (although his supporting cast on Shark is awful whereas BL and House are loaded with talent; see Robert Sean Leonard and Omar Epps for the latter). Those people make moments, which make episodes, which make series. Seinfeld is the perfect example. Shows like Lost are entertaining, but they're really the TV equivalent of those trash novels next to the greeting card section at the drug store. 24 does that better than anyone, though, so it certainly qualifies as good entertainment value in a Chuck Norris kind of way (shooting at Jack Bauer seems, to me, the worst possible idea in the history of bad ideas).
Still, that was probably their worst finale ever. Now, if Heller had shot him in the back and we'd cut to shot of him standing next to Charles Logan... that would've been interesting.
