the B.C. is very expensive and the majority of skiers will never get to experience helly trips and cat skiing. Tanner needs to get that through his thick skull, just because most of us are happy skiing parks and have a blast doing so doesn't mean that we aren't sick great skiers, we're just doing what we like and thats fine. I know we'd all love to go to canada or alaska and ski pow but in reality it will never happen unless we become rich dentists or sick pros. So F$$# Tanner and the rest of the pros who hate on park, thats whear the soul of the sport is and is going. just had to do that, big ups to all the pros who are true to park and enjoy it

hmmm... so when does back country actually become back country?

is hiking within a ski area to reach otherwise inaccessiable terrain like chutes considered BC?

but anyways hiking is sweet once you get going and it definitly makes thoes gnar lines that much sweeter

id say yeah ur pretty biased living in alaska, but honestly, for anyone with enough motivation, the BC is yours for the taking, i mean, if you hike it, it is free. last i checked, free.99 is in my price range

Skiing off a giant cliff with a parachute is an unreachable aspect for most of the skiing community. But if Shane McConkey thinks it's fun and wants to do it, he can go right ahead.

Kangaroo flips are an unreachable aspect for most of the skiing community, but if Jon thinks they're fun, he's more than free to do them.

Perfect superpipes are an unreachable aspect for many in the ski community, but I have no problem with Simon Dumont having access to a pristine superpipe.

Water ramps are an unreachable aspect for most of the skiing community. But if somebody wants to go learn wilson flips, I'm not about to stop them.

Nobody should limit their fun because something is deemed "unreachable" by a few people.


That said, BC is not unreachable for most people. I only put in a handful of solid days in the park this season. Other than that, it was cliffs, pillows, chutes, cornices, couloirs, and deep powder for me. I don't own a sled or go on any heli trips. I didn't even hike much. I'm sorry you live somewhere where you've decided that BC is unreachable for you. But don't be mad at Tanner because he has access to something you don't have.

All you do is MOVE somewhere where there is stuff to ski, I live in Mammoth i ski park, lift access pow and hike BC, thats what you do if your a REAL skier, If you can only ski park were you live and your no longer in high school then its your own fucking fault! Biznach yer soft you live in CO homie there is stacks of shit to hike/sled to, work for a summer and buy a sled if your feet are to tender to hike. Or shut the fuck up, anyone can hike up something and ski it anywhere there is snow.

and if you're too lazy to posthole, skins and trekkers or an AT set up really don't cost that much.

skiing OB turns the sport into a true outdoor experience. i highly recommend you remove your foot from your ass and give it a try.

i love park without a doubt its all i have in CT. when i went out west to tahoe and we got a 2 ft pow day i loved it. i had so much fun in the woods and droping small cliffs and i am in no way a great skier. i think its all reletive to what you ussually ski, i ski park i want to ski big mountain. people that ski big mountain alot may want to shred sick park. its all about what floats your boat

ok first off i am 17, and from ontario. the biggest hill in ontario is at like 600 feet, and i am normally riding at a 400 foot hill. i make the best with what i have. ride the park on the normal days, and on the few pow days we got i spent a good portion of the day out looking for those little 30 foot patches of powder.
i would say, a good amount of ontario park skiers would spend a good deal of effort and time to go ski the shit that someone from BC would. i have been out to BC twice and i know at least 10 people who went there this year.
when i was out i was lucky enough to go heli skiing on an amazing day. and it was by far the most memorable experience of my life. i dropped a few cliffs (nothing over like 20 feet, i had never dropped a cliff before). i gotta say bizznatch. get your ass out there. go try that shit. pick the right day and you will have the time of your life. gurenteed.
so seriously. Park is great if thats all you have to ride, but if i grew up in british columbia (sometimes i lay up at night wondering why i wasnt) i would be out there every chance i got.

1st of all, let me say I like to ski park and much of the progression spwns from park riding, but the bc on a pow day can be fuckn epic.

Your profile says you live in Colorado you piece of shit. Really, how do you hold a construction job if you're too lazy to find bc in CO? I lived in Denver for two yrs and skied some SICK lift accesible terrain w small cliffs, pow stashes,bowls, trees, and w a little ridge hiking you could hit cornices...the mtns are fucking HUGE there. You've got kids on ns ripping up 400 ft hills on the EC and MW who make a trip out west every now and then and love it, the mtns are on your doorstep and all you can do is drag your ass around the park? SACK UP BITCH.

Chris Davenport skied all 54 of CO's 14,000 ft peaks in 1 winter. True he has $ and resources but you could at least find your way to 1 pow bowl and build a jump or something man.

Hungry Sloth is some good stuff man, if you don't like the way Tanaka films/edits you just don't get it.

You are a digrace to CO, ns, and skiing in general you ignorant asshat.

Anyone can get to the bc if they really want to. I live in NY and one one tank of gas and a bunch of ramen i was riding this.  its a 10 mile round trip hike but so worth it

yea bro, if you live in denver make a friend who knows vail mountain well and with 0-10 minutes of hiking you can be hitting better stuff than alot of people have the chance to hit in their life, and not just on good days, if you know where to go then vail has powder 80% of the time

well actaully last time i checked if you can ski then that means you probably have two working legs. And if you have two legs that work you can walk, which means you can hike your ass anywhere you want. i try to ski as must backcountry as a possibly can, but i never go on heli or cat trips, i just hike for my skiing. granted if you live somwhere where there isn't any bc then this doesn't apply to you, but if you live somwhere like colorado utah montana..... then you should be bitching about not getting a ride to the top of a mountain, becasue hiking isn't really that bad, and it makes you appreciate the skiing part of the sport a little more.

Oh and if you don't have a way of saving money for a trip to a place with pow I understand. Get a job this sum or spend less money on stuff less important than skiing big mtns.

Biznatch, you say your from CO, you don't need a sled to ski good pow or bc terrain. I'm guessing you can barely ski between features in the park and that is the real issue here.

All Tanner is saying is that there is some serious progression to be made in the mtns and he's gonna put a "hurtin" on em. He never said park sucks, he won the fuckin x-games pipe for cryin out loud. Stay in the park and buy park movies if you don't like it, but from someone who knows, the bc kicks ass.

BC doesnt hafta necissariliy be expensive cat ski trips or heli trips. BC means BackCountry so you can chill in the backcountry at ur local mt. Heck, I even do it and my mt isnt even a mt( Mt Spoghetto)
