EXACTLY. This is why being an independent is a good thing - Get a guy like Ron Paul in Washington, give the power to the states, and get some good guys (who, in this case, you'd agree with morally) in local gov't. It'd be nice.

who are YOU to say that the unborn don't have the right to life? and how can you be pro-life but not want to "force" that decision on other people? if you think abortion is murder then why shouldn't it be illegal?

Uhh, it's pretty easy actually - I live with a set of morals, which include being pro-life, but don't feel the need to look down on others who have a different set of morals. Just as I don't look down on those who are of a different political party. Why force your ways on other people if it's not what others want? You can share your pro-life views with others who feel the same way, and in my opinion, the decision should go to the states, not one universal policy that may work in one place and not in another.

and for the "who am I to say kids don't deserve the right to live" or however it was phrased - I'm not one, which is why I'm pro-life. I believe that everybody deserves a chance at a good life but I AlSO understand that this view is not shared by everybody and is not a black and white issue. You can't say "abortion is illegal" and expect all of these kids to be born and live happy lives. If abortion was illegal, women would be dying because they would get unsafe illegal abortions, kids would be born in homes that aren't fit for children, and so forth. Yes, you'll say that's what adoption is for and in the perfect world, yes, a woman would give birth to a baby, decide whether or not she could take care of it, make the proper decision, and give the kid a decent life. The world ISN'T perfect, though, and it would result in sick or dead women and malnourished, impoverished children. So I would HIGHLY suggest that somebody make the decision to give the kid up for adoption but I can't make that decision for them - one that would, on their mistake, possibly ruin their life AND the life of the child yet to be born.

so then you would support an anarchistic system where everybody lives by their set of morals? i think the unborn have the right to life, therefore i think abortion encroaches on that right. encroachment on the right to life is what we define as murder. i believe murder should be illegal. i have no problem with enforcing the illegality of murder.

it has nothing to do with "looking down" on anyone. it's about protecting the rights of those who can't protect themselves.

ya, because that's exactly what I said. You're looking at this as a black and white issue, which is fine if you see it as murdering a kid or not murdering a kid, but there, in my mind, is much more to consider than whether the kid is born. If you can't provide that kid with food, healthcare, and education, you're not pro-life.

i know it's not exactly what you said, i'm just following your logic a little past where you apparently have.

your viewpoint's very machiavellian - the idea that if we make abortion illegal, there will be backstreet abortions and unwanted children. i don't believe that rationalizes it. and as far as the black and white thing goes, do you feel that way about all issues? going back into history aways, what about slavery? plenty of people thought that slavery was ok - that african-americans did not deserve the right to liberty - so was it wrong to make slavery illegal and thus "force" the view that all men (african-americans included) are equal on the plantation owners and others who disagreed?

Yet I do believe that. Once we live in a society where a kid is born and it is not questionable whether they will be able to eat, learn, or be healthy, then I'll change my view on whether to force my views on this on others. I've explained my stance and if you disagree, that's fine, but don't add words to what I've already stated. This particular issue is not black or white and I'm headed to bed, so if you'd like to start some irrational argument about slavery, make another attempt some other time.

Again, exactly why I didn't answer - it wasn't because it's almost 1am and I'm tired.

It isn't a rational argument because a owning a self-sufficient human being is NOT the same type of situation as aborting a baby that can not live on it's own. A slave is able to live and take care of themselves, while a fetus is unable to. As I said before, make sure that the mother/caretaker has all the means of taking care of the baby and fine, I'll change my ways, but until then, that is why it isn't a comparable argument. Yes I would stand up to slavery because it is wrong, no I will not force my views on abortion on others because, as I said before, there is far too large of a gray area to make it illegal without hurting people who are already alive and babies who would be alive but not well because of it.

Now I'm going to bed. Go ahead, make your argument that I'm leaving because I'm 'afraid of what might be said.'

I cant believe this, Fox news is promoting Ron Paul now.  Maybe they woke up and realized that working for the losing team is not the way to do things.  The video  states some of Pauls politcal standings as well as interviews with his grandchildren.  Honestly, I dont think I've seen any other candidates grand children get interviewed.  Its going to be ron Paul vs. Obama in 2008.

Read about each candidates views on the USA war policy.  This is actually a legit source so you guys cant hate.  Ron Paul is the only person opposing the war and actually looking at this whole thing in a realistic way, read what he has to say, its not to long either.  This is great for Paul cause the others are setting themselves up to lose.  He will have no competition. hahahaa, suckers.. :).  Maybe it will be Kucinich vs Paul now.  The Majority of the american people do not want war anymore.  Sorry, but you will not become president if you want to continue war, not gonna happen. Ron Paul is the man.

People who voluntarily participate in online polls are generally better educated and better informed, and they also generally have stronger feelings about the topic.  If you go randomly calling people, half of them won't know who's running.  But they're not going to vote in the primaries, the people with the strong feelings are going to vote in the primaries (there's only like a 10% turnout at Republican primaries).  So even if only 8% of Republicans said they'd vote for Ron Paul when called randomly, if that 8% shows up to vote and the other 92% stays home, Ron Paul still wins. Another thing: a lot of Ron Paul's supporters are Democrats or Independents or Libertarians or Constitutionalists who haven't changed their voter registration yet.  So if you're calling from a list of Republicans, you're excluding a lot of Ron Paul supporters. Phone polls are also easier to manipulate. If you're a statistician working for Romney, you'll be able to make your results say that Romney is in the lead based on how you ask your questions and how you get your sample. So yes, Internet polls are statistically flawed, but there is no such thing as a perfect "random sample."  And Ron Paul is winning in just about every online poll I've seen and he's gotten second in a lot of the straw polls, so don't be like the mainstream media and pretend like he's some sort of "longshot" candidate.

Conceptkid and Eleven always get wicked defensive, angry and incoherent/ridiculous when they are attacked. I agree with your point that defensiveness does not help someone prove their point or win an argument. However, I also see where Conceptkid and Eleven are coming from. They make some valid points and provide some good sources. There are some conspiracy theory driven people who do nothing but talk smack... but when a conspiracy about bad government? hun, that's just the truth about our current one. So, just consider the information provided in this thread... take it with a grain of salt too. But just remember that it is never a bad thing to have an alternative candidate for president.

(and as a note... isn't using a sentence like "if attacked, they will defend like a whore and her crack. You just got to let people like this drift off into non-existence and have your fun with them as they do." becoming equally defensive as these to people?)

you want to know why i get defensive? i have been reading about Ron Paul since fucking march. i know more about every candidate then most on this site and i have a pretty good idea what will happen if a neocon wins again. nothing i have said is a conspiracy, i do not make assumptions or half assed predictions. everything i believe has a basis. and again, its total bullshit to say that i get super defensive when anything i say gets attacked. thats bullshit. you are a moron. if some stupid fuck like you comes into this thread and tries to discredit a poll where over 25k voted then i am going to defend it.
