Should we no longer ride park, and move to Mica Creek to ride sick lines with T$ all day? I mean... if thats where he claims that 'real' skiing is headed, I guess that straight-ing off big mountain shit in Alaska all day is where skiing is 'progressing?' Wait, its not progressing! Sure, Tanner is preaching the idea that people need to ski out of the park, but straight-ing shit in Alaska has been done for the past few DECADES!
Big mountain is fun but it isn't where the sport should go, i mean come on how many of us can just go heli skiing whenever we feel like it. The best thing for skiing is urban and park
that tariler is fuckin funny. it had good skiing but u could def put the whole "one mans epic battle between good and evil" movie trailer commentry to it.
It is incredibly difficult to progress the sport in the big mountain arena. Just handling sick lines and surviving is a huge accomplishment. It takes a very long time to change things in big mountain. There has not been anyone since Jonny Moseley who can kill truly sick big mountain lines AND win x-games gold in the same year. Tanner is going in that direction, so that most definitely is progression. There are other guys who can kill it on jumps and in big mountain, Abma, CR, Sage, a bunch of others. It is really great to see Tanner going in that direction.
Tanner may want to progress Alaskan riding, which takes getting to an insane level first. I applaud him for going in that direction. I would rather see a sick spine wall than a backwards pow landing any day. If it was Tanner on that spine wall, or on that pillow line, then I applaud him. He has become one of the best skiers in the world, and he is pushing the sport in the right direction.
big mountain isn't necessarily heli skiing, you can just check out the bc wherever you live and there's bound to be some sick features somewhere, maybe not like ak but you are bound to find some straightlines, cliffs, and pillows wherever you got a mountain. you just gotta look hard enough.
i think the thing is that urban and park can only go so far, i mean how much more can you really progress? there are limits to how much you can spin, or how steezy it is or whatever, but in big mountains you constantly see new shots of stuff you didn't think was possible, or just some jaw dropping shots of stuff like that pillow line, because nature always throws something new out there every year for people to ride.
What find interesting is that Tanner has been able to make himself a preeminant figure in whereever the sport wants to turn along its way. He does moguls. Then he kills park skiing. Then he destroys the BC. Then, he goes and skis huge mountains. Noone has been at his level in doing everything so well. Noone.
T just wants us to keep it real, get us some burly old circular shields with the spike in the middle, and some assorted animal furs so we can kill it like the vikings
Do what you want. I don't think you will find much BC in mountains like you posted, but if you do move, and get into BC and big mountain skiing you will probably love it. The pinnacle of skiing is not terrain parks the same way the pinnacle of surfing is not crappy beachbreaks. Not everyone has access to big mountains or great waves.
I don't think Tanner is putting down park rats at worthless, I just think he is showing us that there is something else out there. I have never heard anyone who rips both on the mountain and in the park say they prefer the park. Not everyone has access to big lines, but we can all dream, and hopefully someday get there.
NOT TRUE TANNER IS FUKIN KILLIN BIG MO?U?NTAI?N hes learning from seth and is steping up his game tanner is an amazing skier and a nice guy he is a poser though, but you guys need to seriously stop talking shit on some one that skis better fakie than you do forward....
there were like 5 or 6 skiing shots in that trailer. how can you guys all judge an entire movie and a person from like 30 seconds of different people skiing backcountry
all the shots in that trailer are really sick, especially the huuuge pillow line at the end. even though it's not park, it's really nice to watch...soo...i believe it!
for one, no matter what tanner says should change anything.
Skiing big mountain with a lot of powder will always be better than shredding the park, but how many of us can ride powder everyday?
The park is just a way to have fun when the rest of the mountain is covered in moguls.
that kind of skiing is wanted by so mnay people. but not everyone has the money to get helis and go ski that kind of terrain. east coast people. tehy arent just gonna go move so they can ski more powder.
... come on now how dumb are you? New features apear due to nature every year????
It's all good people, let the man do what he wants, it would kinda be nice if he'd get off his soapbox and quit preaching about how we have to ski big mountain, that's where the sport has to go. It's not like you're the first person to realise skiing powder and lines is cool.
he was not that succesful at moguls. and cr has been doing what tanner is trying, by killing multiple disciplines of skiing for a while now, not to mention that tanner is not that great of a big mountain skier, comparing him with cr or pollard in a random big mountain setting is no contest. oh and jon has actually done more of dominating different aspects of the sport, saying he's won x-games, was a world cup skier, and has a 1st in a big mountain contest under his belt, not to mention he makes the biggest bc booters his bitch, example: switch misty 9er over chads when tanner busted himself, but he out his butt down.
The shots look amazing and super hardcore to the madmax thunderdome. The movie seemed like it could be called Pirates of the Alaskan Lines. I'm just hoping it isn't just a feature length "I'm Tanner and I'm so awesome" narcistic reggae musical. Like he does kill it, and has sick fun style but when he acts surly about it the whole thing is kind of spoiled. I don't really care about what he says is "real" or "pure" skiing though. The majority of the population who skis or has skied does most of it at a reasort. I mean the resort is on a mountain. Doesn't that make it real too? Sure the trees are cut and burned down to make runs, and there's a starbucks/redbull/monster/rockstar drink hut ever couple runs, and a bottled water costs more than oil, and you catch the smell of weed when you ride that one cat-track, and there's fifty kids with flat brimmed hats with skull candy headphones pumping out geto boys wearing oakley pants with white boots. But it's still skiing, just because we're not a truffle shuffle double reverse jenna fischer off a pillow line in Haines doesn't mean progression or purity can't occur.
Believe is just a dope name for a movie, thats it. It's like saying "Believe" in yourself and you can do anything you want to.
Park skiing is fun and cool I understand that, but maybe did you happen to think that he is over the park for now? Any mofucker can go to a resort and hit the park and so some cool tricks, its not that big of a deal anymore. Of course Big mountain has been done before by many skiers. But NONE of them are T Hall and NONE of them have better style than T Hall. The way he skis everywhere is soooo steezy, hands down. HOw the fuck can you call him a poser? hahahahah
He owns at skiiing for one, he is a good skaterboarder and basically is good at anything he tries which does not equal the definition of poser.
It sounds like some of you are bummed that you lost your masscot for park skiing. He is right "pow is where it's at". But he is to late to take his carrer there. You just don't wake up one day say I am going to rip pow and lines like Sage, Abma, or Hjorleifson. He will be great at BC jumps and jumping in the pillows. He will never be able to really rip a big line like the pros. GOod luck Tanner. At least you now know where the pinical of skiing really lies. Unfortunatley its to late to better your carrer.
you dont, just do your own thing and be happy with that but don't hate on him just because he is trying to go into the bc.
i hate on him because he is trying to act like he is leading this bc progression movement when he is just following the lead of so many people before him.
