You just compared one VERY sick movie sections, and a couple ok ones vs a competition video. Video and competition are completely different dood.

so you posted one of the best segments ever made
then you posted one of the worst
then you posted a rail segment
and then all big airs
then arials.
What are you trying to say. none of those videos were related. skiing is what it is. Itll never be arial skiing and it will never be all rails. Just watch peps segment again

Dude you cannot compare video segments to competition. Mikeal didn't do that 180 and buttering shit in comps. He spun just like everyone else. And as said by CrazedSkier1080, the videos are hardly related. In the Travis Heed video he only hit one jump. There's steezey shit out there, you just will not find them in comps. you jackass.

Oh yeh Travis Heed is so much more impressive than Jon Olsson.
The gangsta style is not what skiing is all about. Give it 5 years it'll be dead. Its not progression, its a fad.

ok, in Pep's 1242 segment, he landed 29 times... 20 of which were switch landings, including a BIG switch landing off a cliff, which was and still is super progressive. that kid is a PROPHET.

yes he is right on you cant compare all of those things, peps is so sick and then you have so much different stuff. of course in a big air compitition its gona look the most like arials because you need too go big and do lots of flips and spins to win

I agree with everyone who said you can't compare them, competitions and video segments are totally different man, skiing is definitely still progressing, IMO

You should see the new school areal tricks they do as exhibition before aerial comps, they're sick as all hell, and aerials in general are sick, I'd like to see you do the hurricane

Heed doesn't ski, get off the dik. and CLEARLY an edit for a movie will be better than ANY competition footy.

style is something you get when your born, but you need to stretch your limits if you want to go somewhere with the sport. someone that can make big spins look real good are the ones with the true talent in my opinion.

umm that second edit was by far the worst edit ive ever seen in my life
ever
seriously it was terrible

dont be a faggot poster
and to anyone who says anything about the travis heed and ninthward style its a style, not a fad, because when you look at what they do, steezy 5's nothing above a seven, and mainly boxes and rails with switch ups, its supposed to be steezy. someone earlier mentioned that its big air for a reason, sure pep went really big and did mainly zeros, but look whats popular today versus what was popular then. to win a big air you can just go off of it switch and call it good, you need a variety of flippy spinnies, good grabs, and solid aerial styles spin, because regardless its still impressive.

we aren't ripping on the 9 "style"... more the fact that they act like a bunch of ass raping clowns whose parents cut off their testicles and fed said testicles to them in a testicle milkshake. i'd find their videos more entertaining if they were about 30 seconds long and showed them getting hit by a bus in slow motion.

the whole point of freesking in general is to not be bound by labels or catagories.
skiing is what you make it, and what is popular now wont be next year, and things come full circle.
there is only progession, no steps backwards. just because we are influenced from the triple back flip jumpers of the US ski team should mean something is wrong.

to become pro you have to prove yourself in comps and what not so
thats why they need to spin, but once done that enough you can be like Pep
or Tanner who basically ski pow and hit backcountry jumps now
if people only did 180's in comps anyone with style could be pro, in order to be
pro i think you still need to have the big spins ie. skill

I think there is a huge difference between aerials and jibbing. liek aerials its just standing straight and spinnging like a top while park and shit you do grabs and make it look cool

mhmm. so what's skiing about? double flips and the biggest air you can boost?
i'm sure that video of jon impressed you so much more than any of the other ones. did you see that pretzel! OMG PRETZELS! PROGRESSION! TRICKTAPES! US OPEN! BLAH BLAH BLAH!
skiing slope and halfpipe, and in general, are just a shit show of who can to the biggest air, the most flips and the most tweaked octo grab.
thank you for making this thread.

...and that's junk how? Show casing your best technical skills is junk? That's like bashing ski racing saying it's all about getting down the mountain the fastest and not about stylie carves. It's a rediculous argument that this thread is trying to make.

I dont see your point?
you have 3 video parts, that are all kinda similar, rails, jumps, rap.
then you have a comp that of course is spin to win.
than arials?
where is the corrolation? I dont see it. There is a shit load of rippers out there who can nollie 270 lip a rail and sw 10 a 40 footer, go have a beer, then hit a double or triple kink, etc.
Dont be so close minded. Arials is hard too... I give those guy credit for doing what they do, even if it is gay. OH and just remember, those arials jumps and landings are perfect every single hit, can you say that about your parks anything?
All skiing rules, considering you could be out there on one of those bike things. ewww

hey, watch some of that aeriels shit, and imagine if that guy had poles, steezy clothing, and threw in a mute grab. he'd be the shit

it shouldn't be about your technical skills, it should be about having a pleasant, creative style that people can see and say "oh, that's so and so!"
right now, i see something from say the us open or your favorite ski movie, and it all looks the same. you need to be able to see what brands candide thovex or simon dumont are wearing before you know it's them.
and that's how skiing is a junk show.
oh, also! your last sentence is a pretty cool metaphor for skiing. i wouldn't have thought of that.

Thanks but my point is that it sucks, I know, that comps. are like that but that's how they are. All the high profile comps. are going to be spin to win because it's partly a crowd pleaser. That's what all the major sponsors want, and it adds that much more tension to the mix to make it more exciting. Like this person has to nail every landing to take it... or something like that. There are comps. out there that focus on style and creativity, and they will always be there. For the most part, though, the only style you will be seeing is cruising around the park or watching a ski movie. Eventually the spinning will be at a cap that everyone will start throwing mad style into them, and that will be something to watch.

How does this guy compare Pep's 1242 segment and the other bullshit he had us watch? Is Deschenaux and some other douche doing 270's off of PARK BOXES really supposed to represent progression in skiing? I'd rather watch the aerials video.
