3/16 thick lexan ok for box I need help quickly please-I have searched for this

dude, just use some wood, some screws and some pvc...no reason to get all techincal and spent a ton of money, when other stuff works just as well...

3/16th is just about 1/4 i think youd be set, just make sure you cut and screw it down correctly then you wont have any problems with cracks

glue it and screw it. you should be fine.

I'm tired of my shitty ghetto ass set up. Im making a nice box this summer so I can kill it next year. pvc doesn't work as well for boxes. I want to have a quality set up.

I have 3/16 screwed on to the top of plywood, and it holds up fine. Just don't put it on top by itself, or you might jump thru it. but you already knew that

Im surprised by this post, you completely misunderstood. First it takes less time to post and ask stuff about it than look through all the threads in build a jib 101. When I was looking at this before I started, I spent a really long time looking through threads, and I didn't remember anybody saying anything about 3/16ths, only that you needed 1/4th and not 1/8. I was trying to get everything donw before tonight for a session I had planned, but it won't work cause I have to build the box again due to really shitty, warped wood.

When did I blame anybody? All I said was I wanted to have a better set up. My almost rotted 2 year old rail doens't work very well anymore and I wanted to build a box with a good topsheet.


What's supporting the topsheet is 1/2 chipboard over a frame of 2x4's. I didn't hurridly put together anything. When I built this post, my box was basically done except for the topsheet, but it doesn't matter now cause the wood was warped to shit, and now Im rebuilding it.

OK ATL, sorry for jumping on ya...  if 1/8 is too thin and 1/4 is better then 3/16 is half way in between.  better than 1/8" not as good as 1/4"  


seemed like a simple answer to me.  Keep this in mind, your finish surface is only going to be as good as your foundation.  IN other words, if there was more support under your plywood, and other measures taken to prevent warping like covering it and so forth.  1/16" plastic laminate glued to the plywood might have worked great.

It just seems like you were looking for a quick answer to a quality box with out recognizing it's not just the top sheet. 

ok, great. Well, the warping was part my fault. I boguht the wood a week ago at home deopt and they didn't have much, so I took the best of what they had left, and it was a little damp, I went ahead made the box, and then it dried and got terribly warped. Oh well. My next try will be much better. I'm also staining it, so it will look ballin.
