Copper would probably work but it's a soft metal, it could bend when your on it. Steel is the best way to go because it's so damn strong.

You can bend steel but you either need a shit ton of direct heat on the steel or you need giant metal shop tools like you see on Discovery's American Chopper show...

think of it this way...all resorts use steel...i think their onto something

just DONT USE aluminum...a friend of mine tried to slide a new aluminum rail at the Killington Med Clinic and its just a disaster, catching edges everywhere

Copper will bend when you land on it for sure. It's a pretty soft metal and most copper pipes are very thin (narrow bore and thin walls). Steal some scaffolding if you don't want to spend anything and don't mind stealing shit.

you will be more likely to dig an edge into copper as well because of its softness. go with steel. like bam bam said any metal scrapyard will have something suitable for a rail if you walk around for a half hour tops. and try to just go for a flat rail, they are a lot easier to attatch compared to two round rails. flat rails all you need to do is drill a small hole for the shaft of a screw, then a larger hole about halfway through the steel so the head is flush with the metal or deeper. then fill in any voids with this stuff called JB Weld. its a two part epoxy that is desgined for repairing cracks in motors and stuff, you can get it at any home depot or lowe's. its fuckin hard and fast and you wont dig an edge into it, not a chance. thas what i did and the only cost were the screws, and the JB Weld. i got the metal from a scrapyard and the wood from a dumpster by a housing development that was going up a few miles away. just be resourcefull and dont use copper if you can.

Steel will easily bend between 2 trees, as long as the pipe pretty long (around 10+ feet)

Copper will work, but you need a lot of supports or it will bend. Its really easy to work with though and you can do a lot with it. Also, it wears down after a while

There is nothing wrong with PVC as long as it's a fat tube and the walls are nice and thick, and you don't have razor-sharp edges.

you also need to support the PVC on both sides with 2x4's as well. you kinda of bury the pipe in a channel of wood so only half of it sticks up. thats the real way to do PVC.
