The only day I forgot my helmet last season I got shreded by a pine tree after misjudging a steep drop(slight concussion and severe cut on ear, lots of stitches) I felt like the kid in "Christmas Story" who shot his eye out w a b-b gun cuz my fam always warned me not to forget my helmet. I have 2 helmets now (skate style for park and full face for bc) and they never leave my truck so I don't forget them. It's def peace of mind now for me, and I've grown to love the full-face when we take the sleds out. My whole crew rocks em now and we all have battle scars on the outside of em.
Saved my friends life 5 yrs ago at a roadgap session when he shattered the foam after a huge mute 3 tomahawk wreck onto a covered dead tree. He couldn't remember shit for 3 days.
Tall hats look dank fo sho, but as the sport progresses, so does the risk. Although they won't always save you, sometimes they will, and that's worth wearing one in my opinion. If you think you'll never need one, I hope your right.
i used too back when helmets were heavy, ugly, and uncomfortable (had one, but it made me crash). they were just too distracting. now adays, i really think your insane not too. not only are they comfy as hell, they weight nothing, and look sick too. my lid has saved me countless times, and the very few occasions where i forgot or opted not to wear it, ive managed to get concussions. even if you are good at knowing how to fall and keeping your head from hitting hard, its still better with a helmet cause you can just take the hit, and not pull the fuck outta your neck muscles. and, itll be there for that day were all destined to have when you take that big hit.
I use the search bar, it allows me to see all the other threads about this like that huge one from not long ago, that way I don't look dumb like a guy who smacks his head without a helmet.
I didn't wear a helmet for like 10 yrs.
The first time I ever wore a helmet, and I mean the FIRST day, I got absolutely thrashed from behind by a shitty, out-of-control snowboarder at Blue.....cracked my helmet almost into TWO. I was so Dazed & Confused (good movie) that I couldn't remember where I'd parked my car....so I just sat at the bottom of a lift until I could spot somebody I recognized.
The fucked up part was, I spotted a buddy in the lift line and told him the story. And he was like "Dude, we had this exact same conversation like 20 mins ago. I told you to go sit down over there. Man, you really are messed." I didn't remember any of it.
from what i've read, most head injuries that cause death involve such extensive head trauma that a helmet would do little more than hold the pieces of your head together. furthermore, most head injuries that are sustained during a crash that causes death are just one of many major injuries that would have been catastrophic on their own. for example, a couple years ago at my hill a patroller hit a tree and died on impact. her internal organs (heart and lungs specifically) were so terribly damaged that she would have died from those injuries alone. she was wearing a helmet, but she hit the tree with so much force that her brain was basically smashed inside her skull. just because you have a helmet on doesn't mean you're really any safer. this being said, there are always a few times i get skeer'd enough to put on a lid to try something x-treme.
Don't use it, only when i first started going on a box and banged my head i asked to use one of a friend, but I should be getting one, next season i guess. a lot of you who use back protectors?
i didnt until a couple years ago, but i thought about it and realized that not dying is better than looking badass without a helmet. plus, most helmets look pretty cool now anyway, so i dont ever go without.
my son james (19yrs) my best friend, who started skiing at 31/2yrs old. now in a coma (4th week)they told us his chances of waking up"nil and none" his sister, mom and I
are torn up.you have no idea the level of fucking HELL

meh, it doesn't really bother me that much unless I doing jumps or something really crazy. I wear one about half the time depending on weather, snow conditions, park set-up etc...
only wear a helmet in comps cuz im forced to. never scared without.
its only scary ridin without a helmet if your used to ridin with it, but then you get used to it when you put down your purse
