what do I need to open a XLSX File?

I googled it and came up with this.

change the extension to .xls and open it with excel. You might lose some formatting and stuff but at least you might be able to open it.

wherever the file is just rename it from filename.xlsx to filename.xls

Its all good, I had the person who sent the file change it to xls and he resent it. You can actually choose the formate with office 07.

Microsoft decided to make Office 2007 documents save by default as a different type of file than all the previous versions. Why did they do this? I have no fucking clue. Dumb idea.
