Someday they'll come up with something that will allow us to live as long as we want.

I suppose its possible. I mean, if we take some supplement that helps keep up the thick barriers in our cell walls, we could theoretically keep living and appear ageless...

well there is alot more to it than that, your body responses slow down, your metabolism slows down, difference hormones are released and body processes such as cell mitosis slow down, the biggest problem is cell mitosis which is kind of a chain reaction and slows down everything else. I dont really see it as ever happening, but you never know.

Unfortuately, death is the only thing that keeps us from overcrowding the world. If people just stop dying then soon there won't be enough resources to sustain the human population. What a dilemma.

Yeah the overpopulation thing is definately a legit issue.
As for evetything slowing down, thats due to cells starting to break down. If we could keep them in tip top shape, problem solved.
I know its easier said then done, just saying. The idea behind this procedure definately starts to pave the way though.

you would get cancer. as you get older you get more and more likely to get cancer. The systems in you body suffer from wear and tear, and eventually the regeneration of cells starts getting sloppy, and your chances of cancer increase.

thats crazy, but theres always two sides to death, one side, its hurtful and the person will always be terribly missed, the other, they have gone to a place a million times better than where we are now

medical science is amazing. there's no reason not to think i can't live to be 200, 250 years old.

I think this is the last thing we need. We already live way too long to be a sustainable species, and old people basically serve no purpose to society anyway, its going to be all murder she wrote, all the time. Run for your lives.

Pretty cool, I wonder how this will influence CPR if it gets proven? Like, right now we're trained to give 100% oxygen after a dive accident, in a year it might be like, "what ever you do, don't give your victim oxygen" lol

yep same here. it looks awesome but it doesn't apply to me. i'm gonna die by freezing to death on a huge ass mountain skiing endless powder. i'll be frozen and found in the summer with a big ass smile on my face

i hate to say it, but i dont know about all this. i dont really see a purpose for keeping people alive forever. i think that there is a reason that we naturally die between 50 and 80

Its funny how we always think we're right and look at the past and are like how could they be so stupid. Yet you have to wonder how many things are we wrong about.

amazing, i'm very interested to see where this information goes in the world of cpr. as a lifeguard, i'm curious to see how emergency procedures would change. it's a truly amazing discovery and concept.

CPR is still a necessity. It's used to keep oxygen flow to the brain and other cells. If you don't receive CPR immediately, brain damage occurs. Plus if you're given cpr right away i think it would be less likely that the oxygen introduced when resuscitated would kill the heart cells.

It sure is! The thing I was talking about is related to diving accidents and giving 100% oxygen, I wonder if that's going to chance, the scheduled review for CPR guide lines is in 4 years, so not to worry to much about it now.
But this got me thinking about regular emergencies to. You have roughly 2 situations where you can find yourself giving CPR in. Either you were there first hand when the victim collapsed and you just start CPR or you found a victim and you don't know how long he's been without vitals, could it be that in the last case you better leave him, or not? I wonder...
