on the blog its says that the watch lifes will be priced around $300 and there will be 2 graphics.
and for the live lifes there will be 2 diffrent flex patterns. one really soft and one stiff for charging

surface could care less about the joe average skier they can go buy thge k2 apache system ski for $850 surface makes skis for the kids who havent really found anything they like in the industry if they dont like surface buy something else!

fyi not one single twin minus the head mojo system come as a system ski nor will they ever.....

line, armada, 4frnt....im sure surface could care less what those guys are doing surface is its own brand 110%

hmmmm spen 10 grand on a mold for an entirely different ski.. or give the kids what they have been asking for a softer live life...

would anybody on tgr ski the live life??? have you seen blake nyman ski? he would ski faces switch past those kids! and he rides them everywhere he goes!

surface is not trying to compete with k2 or rossi or line or salomon or 4 frnt or anybody else they do theyre own thing.. if you dont like it dont buy there skis!

as for your extensive knowledge on how to run a ski company...have you ever ran anything other than your mouth? there is wayyyyyyy more to it than anybody including the guys at surface could imagine!

if you dont believe it try starting a company!! doing anything and see what happens!

I never said anyone should make a twin with a binding system.

I simply made a comment about how so many skis are sold to the advanced skier for over $700 when they could have spent $600 or less for a better skiing twintip with bindings such as a Prophet 90 or MSP.

Twin companies are making skis that ski well all mountain I am sure you will agree with this. If Surface made an all mountain freeride twin it would undoubtedly kick ass and sell like hot cakes.

I understand that the cost of a new mold is much higher than taking a layer of glass out of the Live Life and calling it a third model. But we heard from the horses mouth that they are debt free so what do they have to lose?

More lengths would be nice too, like a 188 Live Life 1, I'd ski that in a second. I love the dimensions I just wish it was longer really.

like i said before surface is taking their time to make sure they are around for as long as they want to be...producing to many skis to fast has made it so much harder for so many companies!

give it time you will not see surface blow up in one or two seasons!


butmark my words in a short time they will be the most rediculous company around!

and every single ski is paid for..... they could have gone into debt and brought out new sizes and new skis ! instead they decided to grow debt free is a much safer plan!


i never said they werent trying to grow as much as possible they are just playing it safe!

if they have no debt at the moment they'll be just fine for at least another couple seasons. i'm considering unloading my lizzies for a pair of livelife2's but i will probably just end up keeping them.

This thread is turning into a joke. It's obvious somebody at Surface has pissed off this 'skimasterflex' guy, otherwise, he wouldn't be trying this hard to prove everyone wrong and bash Surface. Maybe his sponsor me tape was rejected by Surface or something, who knows!

I apologized for being a dickhead but let's let it go. Surface can do whatever the hell they want. It's easy for all of us to sit here at the computer and critique a brand new company, but until one of us steps up to the plate and tries it ourselves, I suggest we give credit where credit is due.

how do the two compare? i already have 180 MSP's and 190 Gotamas so i basically only use the lizzies for days-with-snowboarder-friends and when i go to vail, beav, or buff pass.

keep the big skis for your chargers the live life vs the live life 2 exact same dimensions.. the live lifes are a little burly the live life 2 is a super soft (comparable to lizzies) version they 2s also are flat no camber no rocker just plain flacid...so they should be suuuuuuuuuper fun!

So my fellow Newschoolers, after clicking on this thread by accedent and reading it through I have come to some conclusions. They may be wrong but I don't think they are.

First: Surface seems to be a cool company that alot of people are stoked on. and are doing things a little different then other companies. I hope they end up doing well if they make a solid product. the best of luck to them

Second: skimasterflex is, unlike most of the ns population, able to think things through clearly, and create good arguments that bring up points that most of ns does not want to talk about since they might be negetive parts of a 'core' company. congradulations skimasterflex you can think.

Third: the blends is an asshole that tends to think along the lines as the rest of NS. probably wishing for more creativity as long as the creativity does not lead to anything he or the rest of NS does not like. then it is just stupid. He is just like everyone else.

Fourth:001100 does not like to think period, and hates it when some one can out think him (skimasterflex).

Fifth: Powfoka has no real conection to Surface skis, but would like to think that he does. He is hoping on the latest NS trend of supporting surface skis. he may or may not have ridden them in the past, it is irrelivent. He is shamelessly supporting surface skis because he thinks he is in some way a part of it. He really has no idea what goes on inside of surface except for what they post in the blog that he posts in is sig. Currently his greatist dream (changes with the trends) is that he will one day have some say in Surface or be sponsored by them.

I think this has been the most sophisticated thread in NS history...as a matter of fact, I am sure of it. Congratulations to everyone who has participated. We have made notes and will host a power point and focus group sometime tomorrow.

Oh totally, hahaha. theblends was being a retard, but i think he saw that and tried to make himself look better. and other than him there wasn't anythign negative to that. skimaterflex had some really good opinions and points, powfoka gave his opinion, and we're all happy!

you don't know the meaning or spelling of the word flaccid do you hahahaha.

so basically since the length of the ski really doesn't make a difference to me it's really camber vs no camber is what the decision comes down to.

still i think i'll probably keep the lizzies, unless someone offers me a ridiculous price on them (brand new)

OMG until I read this I thought somebody gave me crazy pills because everyone else here misunderstood all of what I was trying to do here! Thank you for giving me some hope for this website. I am too used to TGR where the discourse is wittier and the crowd more analytical.

I am not bashing on anyone least of all Surface.

I simply was surprised by the decisions they've made for next season and wanted to offer my experience from a ski industry standpoint.

I have nothing against Surface, how could anybody, they haven't done anything yet.

I simply hate how people feel they have to sacrifice quality to produce quantity and get the exposure they want. I do not know for sure that this is what is going on in the case of Surface. But the switch to a cap ski got me wondering and the whole 600% increase in production coupled with zero debt don't quite coincide with increased quality.

You don't make a ski better and cheaper in the same year while going from sidewalled to capped. The savings that is being passed on to the customer is an appreciated one but it has to come from somewhere other than the production increase.

Maybe their model will break the mold and succeed in showing this industry has the capability of such diversity. Maybe they are less concerned with profit than exposure this year and are passing on savings as a result of a conscious decision to have a lower margin for themselves to give a bigger one to dealers. That'd be great, for now, but I don't know if it's worth the risk of cheapening your brand.

Is $349 on the Watch lifes MSRP, MAP, what? Is there a built in MSRP even? How many stores are they going to try and sell in? Going to retail is a huge decision, one that many have done well to avoid in their quest to make the best indi ski.

These are just thoughts I'm throwing out there having had extensive collaboration and discussion with the people at Kingswood. They are weary of the whole blowing up and getting into stores and losing control of their dream which is simply to make handmade quality custom boutique skis that are different than everything else out there. I know that this is not everyones dream or business model, I just respect them for it because their stuff is killer and they have turned down deals that would have grown their business out of their hands.

I am over the whole major brand ski thing. The only skis I will ever buy again are indi brands. I may trade for a major here or their but my money goes to the little guys now. I have made the big players enough money already.

it's funny how people like to idealize indie brands and how much 'better quality' they are than the 'big corporations'. Especially kingswood give me a break (pun not intended).

If you read surfaces site I think it says exactly that they are not that...

Contrary to supersticious beliefs, the corporation that produces the highest number of skis will have the best and biggest factory, and will be able to produce higher quality at lower cost. Hence, you want the most durable skis, take a look at Rossignol who have been around for 100 years and sell 2 million pairs of skis per year.

Surface skis are produced at the Pale factory in Austria, which pretty much puts them at the same quality level as Armada, Ninthward, Fischer, etc... from the viewpoint that skis will break fast no matter what if you throw down on rails a lot, I agree with Surface that the focus of a park ski should be on price & fun to ski on. They have the fun part dialed.

+ they give skiing a breath of fresh air, because seriously: everyone looks and does the same these days on skis.

personally, I gave surface a shot because the Armada distributor in Europe pissed me off to no extent. Turns out I have more fun on these skis and hence I progress more, and that's all that matters for me...

fun is what skiing should be about...many times skiing i see kids not having any fun.. it gets depressing! surfae brought the fun aspect back into skiing for me!
