Skiing in butte

Don't do it! If you don't go to CO go to MSU(bozeman), you DO NOT want to go to butte, its literally the ass hole of the world.

There isn't a ton of stuff to do around Butte.  On a good snow year, Discovery can be pretty fun, but considering we've had one of those in the past ten years that's kind of out of the question.  There's some really good climbing fairly close to town though, and you'll be mountain biking at Pipestone before we can ride in Bozeman.  There's also really good fly fishing if you make the 1-2 hour drive up to the Big Hole and Wise River drainage.

i know butte sucks, but msu doesn't have what i really want to study, environmental engineering. It sucks, but I might end up transferring.

Maybe you should actually hear from someone who lives in Butte, not a Bozeman prick(that's a given for anyone from Bozeman though)

It depends on what you're into. There is a little bit of everything. You can ski, mountain bike, and rock climb all in the Highlands south of town. If you know where to go, there is actually some legit backcountry(Red Mountain). Yes, Discovery sometimes when there is no snow and they don't have a park. But the backside has some nice terrain(almost pure double blacks). There are hundreds of hikes in the Pintlars, Tobacco Roots, and other mountains. Lots of the hikes end up at mountain lakes. Enigma 88 is also right about fly fishing and mountain biking. But if you're into park, Big Sky is only and hour and a half away. If you're bored you can always go hit golf balls into the Pit or climb a gallus frame haha.

There are advantages to being the "asshole of the world." Houses and pretty much everything is cheaper than in Bozeman or Missoula.

Very true, thats probably the only advantage.

You can also pond skim in the beautiful, scenic, world- famous Berkely Pit. However, you may need new skis if you get across.

It is not bad living in Butte there are a lot of nice people, many drinking holidays that are outta control, the skiing is good when there is snow, but if you know were to look you can find some sweet back country spots. there is a rock climbing wall they sometimes go out a climb some local routes. if you go to tech most likely you'll come out a make mad money

I'm not big into park, so a lack of that is no big deal. Has anyone ever hiked into the Pioneer mountains looking for some turns. It looks like there are some cool mountains in there, but I have no idea how many miles in they are, or how good they actually are. Any info?

i live in butte, as for good pow skiing, discovery is sick(very few powder days this year), but other than that dont move here, its pretty lame, but i would rather live her than in bozeman, bozeman is full of rich, stuck up fucking yuppies that think they are better than everyone else....

im from butte and MT tech is some hard shit but there are sick mountains around butte and some sick places to ski backcountry and pow but other than that its not all that cool and fuck you fat evan quit dissing on butte you fucking fat ass yuppy
