Capturing video w/ sony hdrfx1

do I need to get a separate cam to capture footage from my hdrfx1? I know I can do it with firewire directly from it, but will it cause any sort of problems after i do it alot? I could get an inexpensive cam and then capture from that...any thoughts?

you can capture with it no problem. The thing is that over time the heads get worn, and your camera will need to be serviced. I had a gl2, and have been shooting/capturing with it for 2 years now and havn't had any problems. I wouldn't be surprised tho if soon i start having problems with it. The internal heads aren't made like those in a deck, they aren't mean to take hours and hours of fastforwarding/rewinding etc.

cool, thats what i figured. Another camera is not really in my budget right now so ill deal with having to get the heads serviced down the road.

if you are shooting HDV, make sure you use a firewire 800, not a firewire 400. And make sure your comp has an 800 port to plug it into.

one more thing...why are you shooting with such an expensive camera if you dont even know this? jeez if your using a professional camera you should atleast know how to operate it and get it onto your computer...

im not stupid, I was merely asking if it was going to cause damage over time with all the fastforwarding and rewinding required for capturing it to my comp. But thanks for your input...
