ok heres my problem. i am sick and tired of paying 12 bucks for one block of wax to wax my skis. so i went and bought some non scented white candles to try on a pair of junkers and it worked pretty good not as good as real wax but ok then i checked with my local shop and they told me that pretty much any wax will work but the real stuff is always better. so am i nuts for waxing my park skis with candle wax
the problem with candle wax is that most of the time the temp. of snow is too cold for candle wax because the wax is too soft. you can note regular ski was get harder for the colder temps. ski wax is also formulated for use on show because of added hydrocarbons and florocarbons which helps repell water from the ski's base better. so i am suprised that candles worked as well as they did for you.
ive heard that candle wax is super bad for your bases...
i forget why, but itd rather buy 12 bucks worth of wax so i dont have to replace 500 dollars worth of skis
not to take over this thread but...do many of you put on a coat of wax when your season is over? i've heard of people doing this but i've never done it
and if you do, what type of wax do you use and are you doing the same thing as usual?
yes this is a good idea it helps to keep your bases from drying out. just use the wax you would use at the begining of the year. Im in colorado so i use a wax for medium temp, not for cold and not for warm. dont scrap it either just coat it up and let em sit for the summer.
i forget what model of hot wax it is, but swix makes this hot wax that is like 24 bucks a bar but holy shit is it worth it. At mother hucker at this year I went bigger then everyone apparently. I coudlnt time my spins with how big was going it was nuts. The shit is AMAZING and last for like awhile I think its like LF6 Flurocarbon or something. Jesus Christ it made a big diff then reg hot wax.
