Going to Mammoth for 3-4 months?

I am planning on going to Mammoth or Whistler for 3 to 4 months (maybe more if I really like it!) next september. I was thinking of working for Mammoth mountain and living in staff housing but I'm not sure yet of what I'll be doing.
So if any of you are living in Mammoth , how is it? How much money should I have to go there at first? Is the rate of life expensive?
And I'm 18 by the way.

mammoth is soooo dope. its not any more expensive then anywhere else in california. it closes on may 30th i thought though. and whistler is way sick too, but it is nearly imposible to get a job up there if you are an American. if you have the cash, go to whistler.

I'm canadian. But I'm not full of money! But I have to think that I might need a car too (which sucks because it costs a lot!)..

if you go to mammoth and get a job at the resort they will give you a place to stay and a free pass but i think that is only in the winter. but it sounds like a killer deal and the resort is the best in the west.

Ignore what Peetri said... Mammoth is significantly more expensive than Tahoe, which is one of the more expensive areas in Cali... Whistler is sick and has tons of jobs for you as long as you are not a felon.
Enjoy wherever you go.

naw ignore what he said...whistler does have lots of jobs available but they pay so shitty and the housing is so expensive that you have to get a second job to pay for the housing and everything else that costs 5x as much as it should in that town. my cousin worked there for a winter and had to work three jobs to afford living so even though he had a free pass he had almost no time to ride

Dude... don't fucking work for the mountain and don't live in employee housing. I did that when I graduated high school and turned 18. Worst time of my fucking life.
Get a cheap apartment with a couple buddies. That isn't going to happen in Mammoth, unless you get ridiculously lucky. Work a night job serving tables, or stocking shelves or some shit. You want to ski, right? Get a job that allows you to.

if you are canadian, go to Whistler/Blackhomb, its like 4 times the mountain Mammoth is, and Im NOT dissing on Mammoth cuz its sick, its just that Whistler is SOoooo much bigger, and they have more than one sick park. Plus if you live in Mammoth your 3 hours in the middle of Nowhere.
