Replying to The Inside on Lib Tech Skis
So, Ive seen alot of speculation on Lib Tech, and Ive been talking with the rep about an order for our shop, so here is what I know from riding some of last years, and talking about this years...
They are making the skis. From the ones Ive ridden, they are sweet. But they are not super soft park skis, they are all mountain planks (AR6 stiffness). The point of the Magnetraction is to be able to detune your edges, but still apply weight to 7 key contact points on the snow to edge. This only works well for carving...try to smeat turns on hard snow and they chattered.
Jumps are super fun because they are so light. Landing though you have to watch out. Like on the snowboards, if you arent flat based, the skis will hook up and go to whichever side they are edged to.
In addition to all the skis, Lib Tech will have ski bindings based off the Look/Rossi PX style heel. An 18 din and a 12 din will be availible. The 18 will have the all metal world cup toe. This was done becasue of the recent aqquisition of Rossi by Quicksilver...who also own Mervin Manufacturing (makers of Lib Tech, Gnu, Roxy Snowboards, and some other shit I forget).
As far as sizing, buy longer than you would...The tip and tail profiles are long...snowboard long since they use the same profiles. This is not a bad thing if you are skiing all pow, but on hardpack, a 188 has the effective running edge of a 155, so it skis like a normal 165 (normal skis have about a 10cm tip and tail profile.
And buy two...they are sold as singles to the shops so each ski has an indiviual serial number.
Im not up near the shop until the weekend after this, but if anyone has any questions, let me know and I will try to get them answered.
