i was thinking of doing this for a summer job and i was wondering if anyone has ever done this before and what your comments were. was it fun, hard, easy, long, good pay, etc.
it's pretty easy, you just have to encourage old guys, and say "nice shot" and carry their stuff, and you get paid great if you work at an upper-end course, cause all the guys are rich. and sometimes you get to cruise around in golf carts, and the old guys buy you cokes
i live five minutes away from one of the best golf courses in my area i guess but i've never played golf and don't know much about it. should i do anything as far as learning the game before i try to caddie or do i not have to know about the game
yeah you have to really know the game, that is, if you want to make any money. guys will ask you constantly "should i hit the 7 or the 6" "what do you think of the wind" "hows this putt look" the whole idea is to do more than jsut carry their bag, such as give local tips on the course(i.e best way to play #7 tee off or what ever) how the course acts due to weather ect. the better you help them, the more you make.
if players wanted someone to just carry there clubs, they'd take a cart.
not to discourage you, but your caddy job may be different, but my job sucked.....it was good at first but after a while my friends who have caddied there 1-2 more years than i did were making 15-20 dollars more than i was, it ticked me off so bad.....I had to get up at 6am and if i didnt get out caddying they just sent me home with 5 bucks and i got up wayyyyyy to early on my weekend (the only time to sleep in during school/summer)which got old really quick
if you dont know the course well, just be a cart boy. start cleaning their clubs, and they feel like they need to tip you. you can make almost $100 on a medium paced day. the days with lots of ppl suck, because you never stop working, and never get any tips.
I caddied for a couple of years. You will be much better off if you know golf, and especially if you know the course. The work really isn't that hard unless maybe if you're fat - it's just walking around for a about 4 hours. You probably won't get to be one of the "better caddies" until you do it for about 2 years or so. It's all about who's been there the longest, really. The golfers will start to recognize you as a good or bad caddie, and you will get something of a reputation I suppose. You will have to get there pretty early in the morning at first, and competition is fairly high (all depending on your local course, obviously... some courses don't even have a caddie program. The caddie shack is usually a pretty good time - just hanging out with a bunch of other guys. You can make a decent amount of money over the course of the summer and you're really only working mornings. You'll always be off the course by 3, 4 at the very latest.
Like I said, I did it for a while. Now I am a cart boy at a different club. It pays pretty well - I get like $8 per hour, plus tips. Tips range anywhere from $20 per day to $150 on a really good day. Average is around $40. That will also vary between higher and lower end courses. My course is a good course, but not a lot of really wealthy golfers. I know some people that work at a higher end course that make $80 in tips a day easy.
bullshit haha u dont relaly need to know the game if u wanna make money. Unless ur caddyiing for amateurs and pros. I caddy at one of the oldest golf courses in the country. The wages are great. 35$ per bag, not inclucing tip, Usually u will get 45$+ a bag. Carrying putters is one the member is on a cart with their bag and all u do is stay ahead with ball markers and carry their putter. If the ball goes into the rough u mark their ball with the marker and ALWAYS keep ur eye on the ball. Yeah, guys can sometimes be dicks, but deal with it, and be nice to them. Women are generally nicer when u caddy for them, and they almost always have a sense of humor. And if u caddy for younder guys around 20-30,u can almost always jke around with them. It can be a fun job if u do it right. The most i made in 1 round was 155$, carried 2 bags and 2 putter, i had 4 golfers.
i golf all the time in the summer...this post just made me realize how much fun it would be to have a hot little caddy carrying my clubs. I'm totally getting one next time.
wow u made a lot of money compared to me......i didnt get my hourly wage when i caddied....all the money i made in a day was tips and i usually got 30-35 if i was lucky......it was bullshit....glad i am done working there
ya just find a private club and try to get on there a kid i know made 5 grand last summer doing it at one it can pay really well cept u have to be there pretty early
my friend works at a high class course and gets like 75 a bag plus doods sometimes drop like 100 clams down just as a tip. hes making bread. im defianitely trying to get on that
